Current Event # 8: World Population Reaches Seven Billion Mark

Current Event # 8:
World Population Reaches Seven Billion Mark
Due: Friday, November 4th, 2011

According to the United Nations, the world's population is set to reach 7 billion today. More than a third of the globe's people are located in two highly populated countries. China and India alone account for more than 1 billion people each. Both countries have at least three times as many people as the United States, which has the world's third-largest population at a little more than 300 million. In addition to taking a look at the video clip above, visit the following link to see how the world's population is proportionally divided http://www.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/asiapcf/10/25/country.comparisons.population/index.html?hpt=wo_c1. As you visit this link, be sure to think about the large number of people living globally to add today's 7 Billion mark. Click on each link to investigate information pertaining to the following topics of discussion:

Which countries are perceived to be the most corrupt?
Which country has the smallest gender gap?
Where is the Internet most popular?
Where are the undernourished?
Where do people live the longest?
Which countries have the most vacation days?
Who requires the most education?
Who's got the highest (and lowest) unemployment rates?

Things To Do:
---Be sure to include your first and last name in your blog
---Include your class period to your blog
---Write in complete detailed sentences to create well organized paragraphs

Discuss in detail things that you found most interesting about the topics surrounding the increase in the world's population. Did this number surprise you or did you think the count was higher or lower? Highlight and explain your thoughts and opinions regarding any of the facts that you observed from the questions posted above. Where do you see the human race within the next 50 years? Will the population continue to increase or decrease after consideration is given to all of the global and environmental issues we are presently being confronted with? Be specific in your responses.

While looking at the gender gap, I was fairly surprised that Iceland was ranked first. I never gave much consideration to certain countries and Iceland is one of them. When I scrolled down, I also realized that many of them were in Europe. I expect that countries within the United States would have the most internet user, since technology revolves around adolescents of this generation. Surprisingly again, the top ranked countries were in Europe. After clinking on those links, the rest of the information did not faze me at all. Looking through the charts made me realize that the world is more diverse than I had thought and I should pay more considerable attention to them.

In the next 50 years, I hope technology advances to aid us in the upcoming disasters. Global warming is still a problem and with the population increasing ever still, supplies may be limited. We still have flaws in our environment and an increase or a decrease of population may not help it heal. Our seasons are being affected as the summer months are increasing in climate and certain precaution is being made to ensure our safety everyday. When I try to imagine Earth in the next 50 years, I can’t help but think that it will turn out like the wasteland in the Pixar movie, Wall-E.

Every body says there are six or seven billion people on this planet, and they do not think. Now it is seven billion officially. I was very surprised Brazil has the highest amount of vacation days. Brazil is a big country, but I would think somewhere in Europe. I was also surprised that the United States was not on any of the lists. The United States is very populated and has a huge amount of problems.

The human race will have nine million people. The United States will have more then one billion. People will probably live in apartments because there will not be very much space for houses. There will also be a lot of global warming because people are going to have a lot of electronics. The United States will also have a lot of rules about kids and have no one coming to our country.

While reading the articles above, I was very surprised that Puerto Rico required 14 years of compulsory education. I would have never guessed that because I always thought that China would have the most years. People have told me how rigorous the Chinese school system is compared to the rest of the world. Well, I do not know how rigorous the Puerto Rican school system is, but I guess there would be a negative correlation between years schooling and rigor of education. I also noticed that Monaco has the most users using Internet for their area. Ninety-seven percent of Monaco's population uses the Internet. This surprised me because Monaco is full of rich history to same magnitude of places like Italy and Greece, but they do not have the same amount of users.

I cannot envision the next 50 years of my life. Medicine and technology grow at a increasingly quick rate, resulting in less diseases and death; thus the population will rise at a quicker pace. However, resources are limited, and not everybody has the same access to vital resources needed for life. If you put it in this perspective: see how we've grown in 50 years. Fifty years ago we did not have cell phones, nor were there computers or color TV's. All of these items have played a great role in our success today. So obviously we will grow in the next 50 years, the question is: how will we sustain the necessary resources needed for human survival with the growth of our population?

The biggest surprise to me was when I saw how highly populated India and China are. They both have over 1 billion people in their country. The next highest populated country is the USA with a mere 300 million compared to China and India. I never truly realized how “overly” populated these countries actually are. I was also surprised to see that Nigeria was in the top 10. Even developing countries have high populations. I believe reaching the 7 billion mark in our population is a great, but very concerning statistic.
I believe at the pace our world is heading in, we won’t be able to stop the growing population. Unless some limitations present itself in the future, this will become a big problem in our world. Overpopulation can cause many problems, especially with the environment. Food can become scarce. Even though there is truly enough food to go around for everyone, not every person is getting the right amount of food. If our population keeps on growing at this rate, then we won’t be able to feed even more people. We will have to provide more housing for the more people, thus leading to cutting down more trees. There are endless amounts of problems to the growing population. Hopefully we can figure out a way to handle this problem in the near future.

I am not surprised at the number of 7,000,000,000 people on the world. With no regulation on children, our species will continue to grow exponentially. I am not saying we should limit a number of children a person has, that would just cause unrest and death. There is no solution. As long as humans feel the need for survival and children, you cannot stop growth. Sure, it is easy for some old government person to establish regulatory laws, but when you get to the instinct and craving of a child that most people have, you cannot control the nature of a true animal. To go against expanding is to go against the nature of a species. However, nature has had its way with controlling things. Almost every century, there is a terrible disaster that demolishes populations. I am not one of the crazy liberals that thinks this good. I know this is hard to grasp and you may not believe, but a mass death is what some people think is best for the planet. If the human race will die because it thrived so well, so be it. I could not wish for a happier end to the planet. I would be glad that nothing else had wiped us out before global warming or overpopulation. In a time with the threat of nuclear war, epidemics, or global chaos, we might as well hope that over population and global warming to kill us I that far of year. But this earth has been around for a long, long time and has many species on it. But none of those species have risen up enough to destroy everything.

After reading this article, I was surprised that Puerto Rico had 14 years of compulsory education. I thought that China had a very strict school teaching system. Also, just looking at the graph and statistics, there is a massive amount of a gap between the 2nd most populous country, India, and the 3rd, the United States. This surprised me because I’ve lived in the U.S for 10 years, and I’ve always thought it was big. Also, something interesting that popped up was that 97% of Monaco’s population used the Internet.
In the next 50 years, I envision that the Chinese will still control the human race. With that said, I think that the U.S will jump to #2. This is because there are going to be many more jobs, and immigrants will want to seek them. I feel like the economy will excel. I think the population will increase, because the world will discover medicines and treatments to those in need. That will help them survive.

I feel like with the population growing by the day is not hard to believe. There really is no solution. I feel like it is impossible to stop the population with destroying the people. Hopefully we can figure out a way to handle this problem soon. The biggest surprise to me was when I saw how highly populated India and China are. They both have over 1 billion people in their country. I would have never guessed that. Comparing to The Untied States, that is almost triple the amount.
I feel like the human population or race will be triple the amount what it is today. The human race not necessarily will be in danger but it will soon enough. I also feel like with the environmental and global issues will not have an sorta effect or affect on the human population.

While looking at the articles provided I was most surprised by where Internet was the most popular. I thought the United States would be near the top of the list considering how technology greatly affects our lives. It also surprised me that India and China made up such a huge amount of the world’s population. I knew that both countries were heavily populated; but I didn’t know just how populous they actually were. Having more than 1 billion people living in a single country is amazing.

50 years from now, I see our population continuing to increase and thrive even more. Although issues will come up about things like global warming, I think with proper advances in technology we will be able to overcome most of the problems we face. Overpopulation can really be a burden to society, but I don’t think we’ll have to worry about that in the upcoming future.

To me, it's not hard to see 7 billion people living on the earth, it's in our nature to keep growing and expanding everyday. But a question arises for me, is there too much growth? The human population grows extremely fast. Eventually there will be too many people on the planet, and there should be some kind of set limitation. Though, setting a limit on the amount of children someone can have is completely out of the question as those laws would simply fix one problem but hundreds more would arise. I think now, that we've reached the 7 billion mark, it's a good time to begin thinking about how to control our population before some sort of food crisis or something of the like springs up with no solutions. Looking at India and China with over 1 billion people, everything there is overcrowded and soon the world may be like that.
50 years from now of course, our population will increase dramatically, but at what cost? Will the human species continue to thrive with overpopulated societies? I hope new technologies and research will somehow come up with a solution for this. Though, i don't think Global warming will be much of a problem other than a few issues here and then. The main problem to me, is overcrowding of cities and countries. I hope there is some sort of ingenious solution that we have all looked over.

When I read my article I was surprised to see that Monaco has the highest life expectancy rate. People in Monaco are expected to live for 89.73 years. Only 8 people are expected to die every year. The United States is 49th on the list life expectancy. I thought that the United States would be number because of how advanced the technology is. People have created cures a lot of diseases that killed people years ago. No country is close to having the same life expectancy as Monaco.
In the next 50 years I see the population growing even larger. There will still be problems in the future but as technology advances this should help with those problems. I think environmental and global issues will have some effects on the but population but I don’t think we should worry. I don’t think that the population is in any type of danger because population growth.

While reading this article was not surprised that much about the world population. I also was not surprised that China and India account for more than 1 billion people each, they are both huge places. The thing that I was most surprised about mandatory education in PuertoRico and Venezuela. I thought that since china is such a bigger place and they have more industries they would have longer mandatory education. I feel that the population is going to get bigger everyday. There is no way to stop it, you can not tell people to stop having children. I thought that the US would be more closer to the top because of all the technology advances we have.

Within the next 50 years I see the populatin reching around 10 billion or so. I think that now since the world population is growing we will have to be more conches of issues like global warming.

  13. While reading the article above, I was surprised and caught off guard when I saw that Puerto Rico and Venezuela requires 14 years of education. Also Venezuelans school system, kids start at the age of 3. Personally I think a place such as China would have longer years of education because of the tendency of the hard work and more days they put into school. I was also greatly surprised that Netherlands had the most use of the internet. I thought people here used the internet a lot, you should see there ratings.
In the next 50 years I think the human race will defiantly continue to increase.
No downfall about it, the internet use will go up; the population will defiantly continue to increase as well. However resources are limited. People will have less access to things compared to today. But hopefully it will increase just as well as the population does.

When I looked through these articles, I was a little surprised that the United States was not in the top 10 for where internet is most popular. About everyone I know uses the internet in some way so I was surprised that only 78.2% of Americans use the internet. I was not surprised that only 36.3% of China uses the internet because many people still live in the countrysides where there is no internet. I was also very surprised that Monaco had the highest life expectancy, by a huge margin. I did not think that the United States would be top, but I was a little surprised they weren't in the top 10, and was actually all the way down to #49 on the list.

I was very surprised at how the United States were barely in any of the top ten's for any of the categories. At first glance, I assumed they would be topping out a few of the charts. I was rather stunned when I saw that Venezuela and Puerto Rico had the longest required years of education. In my opinion, the continuing growing population is not very beneficial because overpopulation is already a problem, and it will just continue to get worse. Resources will continue to decline, and we will eventually have to expand to places such as the Arctic or Antarctic. Other problems will get worse as well, so we must begin working on ways to cope with the population.

While looking at the articles, I was very surprised that America wasn't on a lot of them. I was especially surprised America wasn't one of the top internet users. Often there is the stereotype (but true at times) that teens use the internet up to 4 hours a day or more. I know a lot of people that get on the internet at least once a day, that is why I was surprised. I was surprised to know that America only had 300 million people. I thought they would have been number 2, below China.

I was surprised when I saw that some of the smaller countries were at the top of the charts. I would have thought China, India, and America would have been at the top because they are more populated. I believe that a growing population is not very good. I think that because with a growing population it brings more of everything, including more needs. There could be more world hunger, more orphans, more homeless people, and more problems.

To me, the most interesting fact I found is that Monaco is where Internet is the most popular. I was really surprised because when I think of advanced countries that may use Internet and computers, Monaco is not the first place that comes to mind. It also surprised me that the United States wasn’t on the list. Instead, there were many countries in Europe, like Iceland, Norway, and Sweden. I never thought of countries in Europe to be more technologically advanced than the United States, so these statistics definitely prove me wrong.

In fifty years, I expect the human race to either have improved drastically, or become more in danger than we already are now. The number of humans does not surprise me now, and we will gradually continue to grow until the people in power do something about it. I do not expect the United States government to kill people off to decrease the total population, but they may put a number on how many children you can have. Hopefully they will find a better solution, and not have to recede to that decision. I think (with the increase of people) we will be forced to figure out answers to our environmental problems, because the effects will get worse and worse as we continue to grow and grow. We will need to pay special attention to wildlife that we will be destroying as our race expands, because the room we take up uses the space some other creature will need. It’s a very serious issue to consider, and I hope we will find proper and sensible solutions.

To me, it is not much of a surprise that we have seven billion people living in our planet.
I know that that as years progressed, we have been reproducing much more faster then in the older days. Every single day there are more and more babies being born. I never knew that China and India would have the most population and the United States being the third with over 3 million people. It’s very interesting to learn that we are in the top ten most populated countries.
I have looked over the countries with the lowest unemployment rates and saw that Thailand was in the top three. This did not surprise me very much. It did not surprise me very much because i used to live in Thailand for four years. It was a very hard time living there because my parents had a hard time finding jobs.

I think that the human population will continue to thrive on for awhile. Global warming, natural disasters and other environmental and man made problems can contribute to the decrease of populations no matter where. For example if there was very strong earthquake, like the one in Haidi, it would wipe out a numerous about of the human population. I think that the future for population of the human to thrive is relied on how well they will take care of their environment and use moderation for everything.

While reading the articles about each of the discussion questions I was very surprised. I expected to see the USA on a lot of the lists or rankings but we were on none of them. I expected the USA to be on the technology list especially. I feel like, at least where I live, everyone uses technology and the internet. It is a big part of life here. Considering the unemployment rates I was extremely surprised to find that Singapore and Vietnam had some of the lowest. It seems like places like that have so much poverty, the rate should be way higher.

In the next fifty years hopefully the population will not grow too much. However, I don’t think that dream is going to come true, I think the population is going to be much higher. A lot of people are trying to save the planet’s environment but there are less people that care than don’t care. That means the progress we’re making isn’t really progress. It’s like we’re taking one step forward and two steps back. I sincerely hope more people will realize our planet needs our help though and the population will decrease as people realize the value of a life.

    7 billion people

It is hard to think that there are 7 billion people living on this earth. as of a few days ago we had supposedly passed the 7 billion mark but there is no way to know for sure. How is it possible to know how many people are alive on earth? People estimate that the population # is probaly about 5 percent off what we think it os. So it is very possible we are 100 million people away from reaching the 5 million mark.

The USA is known for having an accurate census. But the same can not be said for India or China the world most populated countries. An americain girl got the award for being the 7th billion person to be alive on earth at the same time. I think that is stupid because it is a very low chance the baby actually was.

It is hard to believe that our world just hit 7 billion people. I find it outrageous that china and India combined almost contain 2.5 billion people out of the 7 billion in this world. I feel that we need to spread out our people more because in the past century it has seemed that Asia is very crowded. United States is 3rd in the ranks for most populated Countries, but they are still very far from the numbers of China and India. That does not mean that the United States should contain more people. I feel that they have a good amount of people for there land mass.

As the years go on in the next few decades I see us still going up. Hopefully we will have some discussions with other Countries about the population mass comparing to the land mass of different Countries who are dealing with those problems. I was surprised to see that we hit 7 billion people, because in the past few years everybody was saying that our population was 6 billion not knowing how close to 7 and then finally it hits 7. If I were part of the government system I would have a talk with the president about are world mass spacing involved around people. I’m sure that there are many countries that can fit a bunch more people in there country, and that would be a good task to think about in the future.

The thing the surprised me the most was the country with the highest internet use. I expected it to be a bigger Country not Monaco and Iceland. I feel like it could be China as well because sometimes the Chinese government just randomly shuts off the interntet so I would expect the Chinese people to get as much internet time as possible when they could because they do not know the next time it will be shut off.
Within the next 50 years I think the population will continue to go up but not very fast because new diseaes from our over populated world will spread causing many deaths. As the population keeps growing the world will get more and more worse as more babies are born. More people means more carbon emissionsl.

  23. I think that it's unbelievable that the world has reached the 7 billion mark. And that china and india are majority of the worlds population. I know that USA is in third but the numbers that separate USA from india is a whole lot. But it kinda worries me what will china and india do. Where will they fit when they run of space, how will they all be feed if food runs out. I think that they will soon be in a crisis because of there population, and i dont think that they will stop reproducing.
As we keep on reproducing the numbers will go up. And so will china's and india's. If they keep on reproducing they will have to evacuate their own country because they will run out of land mass and they will be no other option. I know that we are all humas and that we all reproduce, but we seriously need to stop and have limits because if this goes on we wil all run out of space and where in the world are we going to put people. I really think that we should stop reproducing.

On the subject of which country has the longest life expectancy I was mildly surprised with what country was at the top of the list. Monaco is a country just south of France and is a very beautiful country. It doesn't surprise me that the life expectancy for the country is high, but I am surprised me with what the highest number is. Eighty-nine years old. I guess that is a good age but I did think it would be a little higher than that considering this day and age where we could say have defied death many times.

I don’t really think that 7 billion people in the world is that big a deal. The United States is supposed to be the third most populated country in the world holding just about 300 thousand people. I’ve lived all over the country and haven’t experienced one bit of over populated areas. However I’m not sure that it will be the same 50 years from now. I’m sure that there will be double or triple times as may people as there is now.

It was very surprising to me that we have over seven billion people living in our world. I always thought that it was a lot for just the United states to have so many people, but if you look at it, China and India both have bigger populations. Altogether there are so many people out there. I don't think that population will stop growing because people want to have kids and as long as there is no law to stop them, they will keep doing so. But I think that it is not good if there are too many people because then there might not be enough space for everyone. There could also be many food shortages. I do not think that it will affect our generation too much because we will probably be dead before population becomes uncontrollable.

I hope that in the near future, we learn ways to control the population, without killing and forcing families to not have children. I think that if this is possible than it will keep everyone happy, and also make human life on earth more sustainable.

  26. I found it interesting that the U.S was not number one in Internet usage percentage. 245,000,000 is a lot of people , but I felt that we have more users in our country.
Virtually everybody has an Internet account either email or facebook or twitter and things like that. The country with the most vacation days seemed random to me, and over a month of vacation days seems obserd to our 20 days. I see the human race continue to grow at this pace. They did not really seem to care about the last 7 billion people being born, though it is bad for he environment they will continue. We will eventually have to meet the consequences though and they might not be good.

I looked at the education requirement through the countries. To my surprise, the United States did not require the most time in school. Venezula was first. Most people think that the United States is very smart, but in my opion, I think that the U.S. government should require more schooling. If we ever want to become the best country in the world our youth has to be educated longer. This is one of the reasons that the chinese are advancing so quickly. They have their youth become very educated and ready for the real world. In my opion I think the american government should do te same.

  28. "We're sorry! This page is not available. Please visit the CNN homepage or use the search box below." This popped up on each link, so I was unable to access the lists of nations. Nevertheless, I shall still answer the second part of the prompt to the best of my ability.

Thomas Malthus (1766-1834) was an English gentleman who theorized that the Earth's human population would one day grow to the point of surpassing that of the Earth's natural resources and therefore we would experience an incredible crash of the population. This same pattern can be observed in animals; for instance, if there are too many deer in a region then the area would be incapable of supplying adequate forage to support them all and most of them would die. Eventually, however, the survivors are so few in number that they allow the region's resources to return and the population can one day grow again.

I believe that Malthus's view, though pessimistic, was also a very realistic one. He predicted the worst possible outcome of the availabilites, with a massive advance in farming and population growth equaling zero being the other two most likely outcomes. I do not agree with any of these three, however, no one foresaw the Industrial Revolution or the advent of the plow. Thus, it is unrealistic to assume that a major improvement will be made before the population reaches a certain point, just as it is unrealistic to assume that no advance will be made.

In conclusion, the result of population growth will most likely not be good, but there are some scenarios (alien invasion, global war) in which it will be good.

I think that it is interesting, but not surprising, that China and India have the highest populations at present (>1,000,000,000 each). The fact that our world’s population is growing was no surprise to me, either; however, I was not aware that we had been so close to reaching 7 billion people. One interesting thing I read about in the articles above was how Monaco (a virtually unknown principality) has the highest life expectancy in the world.

I also found some information regarding the world’s population from NPR (http://www.npr.org/blogs/money/2011/11/03/141943008/when-governments-pay-people-to-have-babies) in an article about how some countries are actually paying people to have children in order to keep the population steady. I think that this idea may have benefits in the present (e.g., a younger workforce in years to come may bring significant economic growth), but that the outcome may not necessarily be positive. For example, the threat of overpopulation is always looming as we go over the 7 billion mark, and there a question of how we will adequately support the growing generation (especially with the economic problems that many countries are facing). Within the next 50 years or so, however, I hope that many (if not all) of the current economic problems are solved, and that we will be able to support a higher population more efficiently. I think that future advancements in technology could help us in this regard, although we will still have to make some societal adjustments to help solve the problems that may result from overpopulation and the consuming of our natural resources.

I heard about this a few weeks ago and it surprised me. Before I heard it i thought the number was a lot higher. Closer to 8 billion but i was wrong. It is really hard to beleive that there is 7 billion on the earth, beacuse that is so many. We can't be sure about the exact number either, this is just a guess.
I think the population of the earth will continue to grow but it will slow down more and more as things happen. The enviroment and other things will impact the growth of the population.

It's surprising to know that there are 7 billion people in this world and that it's still increasing. I only see a very small fraction of that number everyday. Reading the other articles I was astonished to find out that the U.S was not 1st in internet usage. There are many people who use it in the United States but the percentage was lower than some other countries. I mean we had Steve Jobs and Bill Gates so it's a little surprising.
I don't think the world would look that nice in the next 50 years. Earth has many issues already and most of it is caused by us humans. So as human population grows I feel like Earth will run out of fuel and start to decade. Global warming is huge problem and having water to drink is scarce in other countries. Maybe after 50 years the human population will decrease because of conflicts, natural disasters, and lack of fuel. But I know that the world will not be looking good.

At first glance I didn’t think seven billion was a big number at all. Then I saw the population in India alone. India is quite a bit smaller than the United States size-wise while its population is more than three times as much as the United States. To think that a country smaller than the United States could have this many more people is baffling. The population density must be outrageous. I remember from eighth grade we learned about India, we learned that the explosion in population was due to increased medical technique and development of India as a country to inspire immigrants to immigrate to India.
In fifty years I expect the population to exponentially increase from now. I would estimate to maybe ten to twelve billion people. There is no reason for the world population to start decreasing now (unless 2012 actually happens, then I’d cry). With the increasing efficiency of medical care and this era of peace in the world, I’d expect the increase to continue for a while.

It is mind-blowing to me knowing that there are 7 billion people on this Earth! I cannot even imagine just how great of a number that is. Not too long ago, I heard the population was at 6 billion, and it now increased by 1 billion more. It’s not too surprising that the world’s population is increasing, but it’s surprising of the quantity it produces. Within the next 50 years I believe that the human race will continue to increase. People come and go, so I don’t know if the world will ever be a suffocating crowdedness. I don’t really see the population decreasing, but it may be stable or rise in the future. A lot of people dream of having children and overall, a family, so it depends on whether global and environmental issues we are faced with today will affect people’s choices now and in the future.

The statistics I read were surprising in some areas and then again, not so surprising. It was no shock that China had the largest number of inhabitants as it is known to be the most populous country on Earth. It was interesting to know that Nordic countries dominate the top ten list for highest online presence. Countries that I thought to be sheltered, like Iceland and Greenland have a large number of internet users. I also found it intriguing to know that the people in Monaco live the longest and it made me wonder why that is.

It is very surprising to me that there are 7 billion people in our world. The most surprising fact in the articles was the population in China and India. There are so many people in those 2 countries. The bad thing is that our population is still growing. Hopefully we will find a solution to our problem soon before it gets out of hand.
I don't think the world will look that good in 50 years. The Earth will be be more over populated and global warming will be even worse then it is now and the polar ice caps will be melted more. Maybe we will figure out some break through break through discovery to help global warming and save our world.

After watching this broadcast, I was shocked as to how many people are currently living on our planet. It is a huge number that I could have never conceived. I always thought that the global population was six billion people, but in fact it is seven billion people. The most shocking fact after watching and reading all of the provided information is how large both India and China are. Two of the most impoverished countries in the world have the first and second largest populations. I honestly have no idea where the human race could be in the next fifty years. I sure know its going to be a whole lot bigger. An estimation I could imagine is ten billion people. I do not think that the population would begin to decrease. There are just so many people in the world, and it seems unethical to control how many children a person can have. However with this there will be some significant problems like food, housing, and poverty. In fifty years there will be a lot of problems that will need to be solved.

I never really thought about how many people live in all of the countries all over the world. I knew that it must be a lot. It also makes sense that the number of people continues to grow. Seven billion is a huge number that is unimaginable, however it doesn't shock me that there are that mane people in the world.

When I read all of the links of the questions posted above there were definetly some that surprised me more that others, and some that I hadn't thought as much about before. The country with the smallest gender gap was Iceland, with Norway, Finland, and Sweden following. The US came in 19th out of 134 countries. Yemen came in last. I've never traveled to any of the countries that came in near the top, so I didn't have much of an opinion about them, however I expected the US to rank better. Many countries where the majority of people are Muslim ranked lower. This make sense because their beliefs are different. The country where the life expectancy is the longest is Monaco. Macau, which has the second longest has a very low death rate per year per 1000 people. It doesn't surprise me that Afghanistan and Angola ranked at the bottom. Puerto Rico and Venezuela require the most education. Those countries never really came to my mind when I thought about that question, but they don't surprise me. Bangladesh, and Pakistan make sense in that they require less education, but I think that education should become a priority there, and it should improve. The fact that Qatar and Thailand have the lowest unemployment rates makes sense. However, it is important to remember that many people there are living in poverty because many of the jobs aren't what are considered good jobs. I think the quality of jobs should be taken into account when unemployment rates are looked at. I thought of Zimbabwe right away for the country with the highest unemployment. In 50 years i expect the worlds population will be even greater. I think many of the statistics of the questions will have changed, some for the better and some for the worse. I think it will be harder for countries at the bottom to improve than the countries at the top to get worse. As the population continues to grow I expect their to be many changes all around the world.

I was surprised that the United States was not in the top 10 for internet being used. Everyone that i know uses the internet in some way. I think that most of the top ten and the other numbers seemed pretty accurate though. I also was surprised that there are 7 billion people in the world and that the number is still growing.

I think that in 50 years the world will be even more over populated. With all of our new discoveries about medicine more people are surviving diseases that would have killed them years ago so the population will keep on growing. I also think that because of the increase in population there will be more pollution and other harmful things caused by humans.

First of all, I was not very surprised that the countries in the top for the smallest gender gap were mostly north-eastern European, or just European. These countries have very well organized governments, and are also very fair. I was also not surprised with the listing of the countries of the most undernourished, but reading this chart made me said. I hope, one day, we will get to the point where we will no longer need to have charts listing the most undernourished countries. I was also surprised that the USA was not in the top ten on the list of the countries that use the internet the most, mostly because of how much energy our country uses up, and how much everyone talks about the internet.
I think that the world’s population has already gotten to the point where there are too many people. I hope that are population will begin to decrease soon, but if it doesn’t I do not think anything drastic will happen in the next fifty years, but I might be wrong. I think that if everyone has taken into consideration how crowded the world is, they will hopefully stop having twelve children per family. I am not suggesting that countries should limit the number of children people have, because that would cause unrest and rebellion. I also think that most of the energy overuse problem is not necessarily cause by too many people , it is also caused by wasting energy. I think that countries like America who have about one third the population of China but use more energy than they do need to cut down on energy use so the earth will be able to host future generations.

I think the number that most upset me was the US unemployment rate. It has already dropped to 9.2%, way below it's competitors such as China (4.1%), and it's neighbors Mexico (4.2%) and Canada (7.1%). Personally I think that the world's population will keep growing and in 50 years we will be way overpopulated. The consequences of overpopulation will most likely have a negative affect on our society. Although I do not think that people will take into consideration global warming or anything else when they are having a child. Most people are not like "I'm not going to have a child, so that I can help the planet," they just do what works for them. All we can do is wait and watch for what our future will be like.

I found it surprising that the United States is not in the top five for highest life expectancies. It surprised me because I considered the U.S. to have very high advances in medicine and well being. The internet users also shocked me, I was almost certain Americans were at the top in the use of internet but I guess not. The number seven billion is hard to comprehend. It does not surprise me that there are so many people, but it is hard for me to wrap my mind around the number seven billion.

Fifty years may not seem long but think about how much has happened in the world in the last fifty years. There have been so many advances in not only technology, and medicine but human society itself. I have no idea what will be going on then but I don’t think that the population will decrease, I think it will continue to increase. I don’t think that people will decide against having families because of the population increases to them it would just be one or two more people in the world.

One of the things I found very interesting that while all countries with the highest percentage of undernourishment were in africa, the two countries with the largest amount of undernourished people were India and China. The percentage of undernourished people in india was about 21%, but that is still much more than the average for developed countries. I think that this is because India is not a very developed country yet it has very suddenly become one of the most populous nations in the world, so the distribution of food in big cities is very bad and it is hard for poor citizens in the inner city to get food. Another interesting thing i learned was that while the top four countries with the longest life expectancy were all relatively very small, Japan was #5 in Average life expectancy. this surprised me because not only is Japan a very populous nation, but it also has a very small amount of land, so I would expect more transmittance of communicable diseases and lower sanitation.

In 50 years, I think that the population will still be increasing, and rather than overpopulating cities, I think new cities will be formed in currently uninhabitable places using advanced technology. Also I believe that with more advances in agricultural efficiency, world hunger will be less prevalent. With medical advances like the cure for diabetes and cancer emerging, life expectancy for the world as a whole will move from about 65 to about 90.if humans are smart about our expansion, we should be able to create renewable energy to power the new cities without herming the environment. By 2060, I believe 90 percent of all energy will be from renewable sources.

Seven billion people in our world is insane to think about. Though, I feel like our world is large enough to hold much more. I first heard this and thought “Wow” and “Really?” at the same time. Although, when considering the health statistics in different regions, it makes more sense. 13% of our 7 billion people in this world are undernourished. This means that they are considered to have below the minimum energy level, due to lack of food. 69% of the people in the Democratic Republic of Congo are said to be undernourished. So many suffer everyday from hunger and we’re losing these people every second. The longest life rate comes from Monaco, with an average age of 89.73 years. Second is Macau with 84.41 years, the U.S. is 78.37 and the world average is 67.07. Foreign areas can have higher averages than the U.S., or less depending on the situation, though I do believe the U.S. could have an older age if we had better lifestyle habits.
I was surprised to see the requirements for school years in different countries. Venezuelan kids start at the age 3, Puerto Rico starts at 5 and ends at age 18. There are places where only five years of school are required, that was one of the main facts that popped out to me. It didn’t surprise me that the U.S. had a high percentage for the unemployment rate, and I hadn’t ever really thought about the unemployment rates in other countries. Southeast Asia is known to have some of the world’s lowest unemployment rates which was something I never knew.
Lastly, the internet statistics didn’t shock me. China and the U.S. hold the claim for having the most internet users. Sweden, Denmark, Greenland and Finland hold high percentages as well. Most of these facts and statistics have never entered my mind, though learning about them and using them to my knowledge of the world it kind of tied all in. The world is growing and as technology and medicine advance, it isn’t hard to believe.

The fact that we now have 7 billion people living in this world is unbelievable. I definitely thought there were less people that that. I was surprised that Hong Kong and Denmark had the biggest percentage of unemployment rate. It also surprised me that Finland has the most internet users. I thought that America would have a big rate of internet users, but it turns out that they’re not even in the top five in the graph.

I think that our race will get bigger very rapidly in the next 50 years. The future is still really unpredictable, in my opinion. Right now, we’re going through a lot of environmental issues. There’s been very bad floods, tsunamis, and earthquakes that nobody saw coming. It can get worse. But hopefully, as our technology advances, we will be able to fix a lot of unnecessary issues that we are facing today.

It’s not very surprising that the world’s population has already accomplished a record of 7 billion people, since Chinas inhabitant count has already reached 1,336,718,015, India with 1,189,172,906, and the U.S. with 313,332,044. I do think there should and eventually will be a (possibly strict) population control, but not to startle civilians into thinking we should bomb our own race, so others can live on the planet. Instead there should be a decreased amount of tax required to pay, or salary increase for those who have one child or none. This way it encourages population control in the least possible violent manner, and people will be happy. In the next 50 years I see that nothing has changed but technology, population amount, and a slow decrease of resources. If many people recycle, we salvage much of our reserve that we have been using; therefore the Earth’s resources will not die and show sharp, decreasing trends on graphs over the years.

If we go to an abrupt halt with the world’s population—in fact, let’s say Europe’s population, will start to decrease, instead of building up. All they did was stop making babies, the graph should stay still! Why is this so? Well, your grandparents and everyone else’s would have trouble living on their own, meaning only elderly people would live in that area. The elderly people depend on us! Young people in order to feed them, mine the coal to stay warm, et cetera. So if everyone stops making babies, eventually the human race would be no more. So this comes to a conclusion an increase on population benefits our community, but too much can harm it.

After reading the articles and watching the videos, I was genuinely surprised about many things. I was really surprised that the United States was not the place where the internet was most popular. All the people that I know use the internet 24/7 whether it’s for homework, work or recreation. I was not surprised about the undernourishment in Africa, the high life expectancy rates in Europe and Asia, the most vacation days in Brazil and the education in Puerto Rico and Europe. I was, however, surprised about the highest employment rate. I wouldn’t have believed that the country with the highest employment rate was Qatar, which is in the Middle East. Before I saw this, I thought that all of the Middle East was in chaos and at war. This made me rethink that.

As for predicting the human race in the next 50 years, I believe that we will continue to reproduce at a rapid pace. As seen through the interview, mothers do not care much for the briskly rising world population. Thus, I think that there will never be a time where our reproduction will stop. However, I think that now that many people are learning about the issue that the world will soon not have enough room for the human race, the reproduction rate will slow down.

I was not at all surprised to see China, India, and United States at the top of the most population list, but what surprised me was that China’s and India’s population are only about 1.5 million people apart. Also that the United States is only at 313232044 people and that China has about 1 billion more people than the US. Furthermore I was surprised to see that Brazil and Lithuania had the most days of vacation. But the thing I found most shocking was that the United States and China have the least amount of vacation days. Usually I always thought that the US was the best, that it had lots of vacations and was really relaxed. Even though I was totally wrong, I still believe that the US is still a great country.

I cannot envision what the world would look like in 50 years, because the technology and advances in tools that we use to accomplish things have changed so much rapidly. The population will definitely increase. Though there are more diseases, natural disasters, global warming, and so much more horrible things happening in the world. The population has never and will never go down, unless there is something catastrophic that has happened to affect everyone across the globe.

When I saw that there are 7 billion people on earth, I was quite surprised. I didn’t think that there were so many people worldwide. Also, I knew that China and India are overpopulated, but not to that extent. I couldn’t believe that 2 countries could have a third of the world’s population. I was also surprised that they both have more than 3 times the people in America. Looking at all of the charts and seeing where our country ranks shocked me. I thought we were a lot better off than we are in terms of these things. We have low vacation days, high unemployment rate, and middle of the road in education. I was surprised that we weren’t in the top 5 for anything other than population.

I believe that in 50 years, we will be beginning a process to fix all of this. I think that once these factors are truly taken into consideration, people will begin to work on solutions. There will be bans on children and more strict regulations on carbon emissions. I think that this is a situation where you can look at it glass-half empty or glass-half full and I choose to look with optimism. I feel that no matter how things play out, all we can do is hold our heads high and hope for the best. We may not be able to fix everything completely even in the next century, but time heals all wounds. I think we should believe in the world, and believe in what we can do ourselves.

  48. 7 billion is a hard number to think about. I remember just a few years ago I was convinced the world population was around 6 billion, but it’s a surprise to me that it’s jumped so much in the past few years. I know that China and India both have populations of over 1 billion, but it’s still hard to believe that another 4-5 billion people were spread out throughout the world. One thing that stood out to me was that children in Venezuela started school at age 3. When I was 3, all I remember doing was playing with blocks and stuff. It also surprises me how almost 850 million people in the world are hungry and undernourished, since it’s about 1/8th of the population.
I think in 50 years, the world will have many more billions of people with the rate we’re going at now. We’ve grown tremendously in the past 50 years in technology, knowledge, and medicines. There’s no doubt that we’ll continue to grow much more, probably even more than we have in the past 50 years. The life expectancy of humans has gotten higher and higher due to medicines and a general higher standard of living. We will need to find space and resources for the growing number of people, and life will probably generally be more chaotic than it already is.

I think that with the population at almost 7 billion that it will keep increasing. The population will most likely keep increasing because of the amount of people in the world and the amount of children born everyday. With the population increasing from 6billion 14 years ago to 7 billion today that is a very significant number. i think that the population of the USA will keep increasing but some country's like China and India there population will start getting smaller with increased poverty. Country's in Europe such as Britain, Their population is already going down.
I was very surprised that we were third though in the world with the biggest population. I knew we have always been around the top 10 but I didn't think we were third. The thing is though we are more than 700 thousand people away from China and India. I mean third may sound bad but we are really in not that bad of a spot currently. If our population keeps increasing though we will 1 billion and up. The USA will then be in the spot as China and India. We need to find jobs and turn suburbs into farmland which we can grow more food for our increasing population.

I am very surprised about the 7 billion people on Earth. People said there were more than a billion people but now there is actually 7 billion. There is actually no way to stop the population from growing because; people are going to keep making baby’s until I don’t know when. What I didn’t know was that China and India had over 1 billion people itself. Now that is a lot of humans. I don’t think that there would be any country that will have 1 billion like China and India.
50 years from now the population will grow even larger. People are going to keep having babies and they just can’t stop people from having them. Not just with human population but with other things to. Like technology, I think technology will keep growing and it just won’t be able to stop because everyone uses technology. Hopefully the population will slow down or even stop but I doubt it real seriously.

Seven billion? I thought the official number was something like 6.1 billion or something. In any case, I found it interesting that even though China and the US have the most Internet users, they don't have the highest percentage of users. That honor instead goes to the Nordic countries, a set of countries that none of us really think about when it comes to Internet usage. Something that wasn't surprising was that most of the undernourished were in Africa. In fact, I had to scroll through several pages on their chart just to find a name of a country that didn't sound like it was in Africa. Not very surprised that China still has the largest population, though. It was really cramped when I lived there.

Hopefully, in the next 50 years, we'll see some innovative technology to pull us out of this mess we're in right now. By then, we might have 8 or 9 billion people, instead of just 7, and if that happens, global warming will speed up, and we'll need the aforementioned technology to get us through. I can also hope that the undernourished countries will get a bit more food, but that might be a bit too much to hope for, as their status hasn't changed in the last 50 years.

I think that the population of 7 billion people will continue to increase. A few years ago the population was around 6 billion, now the population is 7 million. I am not surprised to see the U.S, China and India as the three main populated countries. Though what amazed me that some of the overly populated countries seem to have the highest unemployment rate. I always thought the most populated countries would have the least amount of unemployment rate.

Let's just hope that in the next 50 years, people will find away to "control" the population of the world (possible even one country at a time). Due to the fact of the population growth, I think the world will enhance more problems. One problem could be places for people to stay at.

  54. I was most shocked about the gender gap but was also surprized to hear about where the internet is most possible, where people live the longest and which country has the lowest and highest unemployment rates. For the gender gap, I expected our countrys’ number would be higher but we were ranked 19th out of all othe countries. I have never thought Iceland to be an equal country, but hadn’t really put much thought into it. Where the internet is most possible was shocking as well. I was surprized to see that Monaco and Iceland had the highest at almost 98% while the U.S. was at 78.2% of the population uses the internet. I would have thought our numbers would be higher if not highest. For the lowest and highest unemployment rates, with Quatar and Thailand with the lowest at .5% and South Africa and Angola with the highest both at 25%. Living the longest I saw a correlation with where the internet is most popular with Monaco at 89.73 years average and lowest is Angola at 38.76 years average.

In fifty years I see the earth, even more environmentally damaged than now, but with a still ever-expanding population. The technology will probably be very advanced but the government will still have problems and not be able to do anything about the downspiral of our environment. There will probably still be wars, terrorism and violence even then that we won’t be able to deal with. The population will grow against the environmental problems but will not have enough awareness to do anything about those problems until it is too late. I do think there will be more environmental awareness but still not enough.

When reading all of these statistics I was very surprised at all of the results that they produced. For example I was very surprised that the United States was not among the top ten countries for life expectancy. I thought that the United States being such a technologically adavnced nation would have one of the higher countries for life expectancy but they weren't even on the board for that Another very surprising statistic I learned was that Puerto Rico required the most years of education. This too surprised me because I was expecting it to be that of China; whose schooling systems are notoriously rigourous and difficult. Yet another surprising statistic is that in many of the categories countries in Northern Europe frequented the top ten. I did not think that they would have been placed there, because they do not seem like countries that would have good statistics like those.
I think that our population will exponentially increase from here. This could cause a magnitude of problems fifty years down the road. I wasn't surprised that the population of the world had reached seven billion, because I was aware that it was reaching that point. I had seen people talking about it on the news, and things like videos on YouTube. Of course, it's evident that at the rate the human race is growing, and the rate we're consuming the planet, it's not sustainable. People used to talk about how it wasn't themselves who would feel the consequences of global warming, but their children; we are those children. We are feeling those effects now. It's hard to say what effects our children will be feeling when they're our age, but I think it can be certain that they will nit be good.

I think our population will stop increasing when people are educated. The US is nearly at replacement rate, after all.

  57. I was really interested in this article. If the supposed is true, this is a huge benchmark for us as a world. I was definitely surprised to see the statistics in this article. The amount of people all of these countries have is astonishing and definitely a set up and an easy way to predict how our world will work/how many people will live in it in that point in time. I can’t believe how big India and China’s population has grown.
I am worried about how much the population is growing. I think if we continue at the rate we’re going then there is no question that we will be risking our functioning world. As I understand, right now, there is more than enough food to feed all the people who live in this world, but we have a problem with circulating that food to get to everybody. I think there would be a scarcity of food of our population continues growing at the rate it is growing.

There were parts such as the gender gaps and most technology oriented that i did not think would be like they are, but the world population hitting 7 billion is not to EXTREMELY crazy. i knew that we were getting close, but i thought it would be at least next year. what does this say about the human race? will this go down in history, 2011, World Hits 7 Billion? will people years and years and years from now think that this number is big? small? Its hard to know what will happen to the human race. I mean, with the statistics about corruption, it doesn't look like the whole world is really advancing as one. won't unity be essential, 50 or 100 so years from now, when the world population is going to presumably be like 10 billion or something?

i have a lot of questions about what will happen in the future, but i know i feel strongly about one thing; humans will be living on the moon in 50 years. it seems pretty crazy, but fifty years ago, what would your parents have thought life would be like now? probably nothing, they weren't alive yet... but the number of technological and scientific and medical advances being made each day is growing exponentially, and if we end up running out of space here on Earth, what better place to go than our very own moon? to find out the answers to these questions, i plan on living over 100 years. and dying on the moon, or something cool like that.

  59. The biggest surprise to me was when I saw how highly populated India and China are. They both have over 1 billion people in their country. The next highest populated country is the USA with a mere 300 million compared to China and India. I never truly realized how overly populated these countries actually are. What also surprised was the fact that Nigeria was in the top 10 in terms of population. Even developing countries have high populations. I believe reaching the 7 billion mark in our population is a great, but very concerning statistic.

I think the global population will continue to increase. I believe that resources might run low and humans might have to utilize other planets to grow crops and get other things from various other planets to survive. How would we get resources necessary to grow things on other planets? What would people have thought of life right now? But I also think that technological and medical advances will still be occurring in the next 50 years and even more.

While looking over the chart of which country uses the most internet I was surprised that the United States aren’t even in the top 10. I really thought that the U.S would at least be the 5th on the chart. While looking at other charts I noticed that Monaco was in many of the charts. Since the U.S is creating so much more technology like smart phones that has 3g and also has Wi-Fi capabilities that we would surely be in the top 10.

We also have IPhones, IPods, Mac’s, and many other laptops and people are always using the internet. Looking up the weather, using texting apps, and many other things they all need WI-FI capability. And since the U.S is the third on the chart with the most population, it seemed pretty obvious that the U.S would make the top 10 chart for top internet users.

http://www.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/africa/08/19/country.comparisons.internet.use/index.html To be honest, I didn't think it was only 7 billion people in the world. I though it was WAY more. To me the United States of America seems way more populated than what it really is. A lot of the other countries that are more populated than the US, you would think to be as maybe third world countries or countries in low economic standards yet they a more populated than the US.

The United States shows great improvements in technology. They've made it possible for you to have internet anywhere basically. Now a days, people rarely ever send paper mail its always electronically sent. Sometimes I think that the more Americans strive to make America the "best" country, the more they put stress on other Americans to keep up on the technology and more stress on themselves to keep the technology new, fresh, and updated.

I wasn't that surprised by this calculation. I mean 7 billion is a LOT. Even the 350 million people we have here in the US is a lot. I think that we are in a pretty good situation because although we have one of the highest populations we also have a lot of the resources and we are a lot better off than most countries. I think that we are getting to the point where statistics will have to be really reliant on using statistics per capita because otherwise you see lots of internet users in China but not as many per capita. It is just because they have such sheer bulk of so many people. Within the next 50 years I believe the population of the earth will rise and then it will start to decline because this world can only feed so many people. Already we have a billion people starving every day. Also I think we are already pretty much dead from global warming because it takes about 50 years for the carbon dioxide emitted today to take into affect the green house effect. So that means that right now we are feeling the CO2 of 1961 and earlier. Imagine what it will feel like 50 years from now.

The United States has great technology because we are the ones that are innovation even if we are not actually producing what we are designing. Even right now I am typing on a computer that was designed by Steve Jobs but was most likely assembled in China. I feel that our educational system will need to step up it's game to keep up with other countries though. I think in general that this mile mark should be a wake up call to us to get our butts in gear and step up our game.

I am not surprised by this number, i thought it would be somewhere near here. I didnt really find it surprising that the United States is one of the countries with the least amount of paid vacations. This didn't surprise me because my parents dont often go on vaction. I was surprised that the United States was not one of the top countried that internet is most popular in. This surprised me because a lot of peoples lives in the United States revolve around the use of technology.

I think that the human race will continue to grow imn the next 5o years. I personally think that the population will continue to increase even after consideration is given to all of the global and environmental issues. I don't think people will care about those as much as they will care about their child. I believe that if a person wants a child they would have one eve with all the environmental issues going on.

It’s not surprising that the world population has reached 7,000,000,000 total pop. Another thing that is not surprising is that china has the highest pop. I don’t usually think of Iceland as a very gender equal county, but then again I don’t usually think about Iceland at all. The county with the longest life expectancy is Monaco then Macau, where are these countries, this is the only place I’ve ever heard of them. They sound middle east but I have never seen them. Once again it does not catch one off guard that the most undernourished countries are the African countries. In 50 years I see us in space with colonies somewhere. I could not tell you where but the earth will less habited with more people out of its atmosphere. I think the population will continue to increase then level off as the earth reaches maximum capacity. I think that we will ust have to live on an overpopulated planet until we find some solution.

The population reaching the seven billion mark is not particularly surprising. India alone has 1.2 billion people. China has 1.3 billion. So we knew we would eventually get there. Many people seem to be worried that the world will become over populated and that they may have to start putting laws in place to make sure the population stays within tolerable limits. It is hard to gauge what will happen over the course of the next century, but I think things will get worse before they get better. Once population starts becoming a tangible problem people will focus their efforts on fixing it. There's no use of preemptively trying to solve a problem which hasn't taken full effect yet. However, the population problem could impair the efforts to stop other problems like hunger and poverty. These issues would become all the more serious the more people are involved. You could ration the number of children you could have, like one for every two people adults, but the ethics of restricting childbirth are not exactly clear. How would they deal with things like accidental pregnancy, being pregnant with a second child after the laws are pasted, abortion, adoption, etc. Since these laws would apply to basically everyone in the world, the number of special circumstances would be rather high.

After reading this article, I was not surprised at all by the number of people populating our planet. Although seven billion is a huge number, it does not shock me at all. What was new to me, was the difference between men and women in certain aspects of life including jobs and overall health. The U.S. was not even ranked in the top ten for men and women equality, which doesn't seem right. You would think that being one of the most powerful countries in the world that we would have the highest man to women equality.
This article also made me realize how much we stress our planet. With seven billion people Earth is getting totally polluted and trashed as the years go on. With more people, more energy and resources are exploited, damaging our environment. Obviously, this is a tough problem. You can't just ask people to stop having children, but some change has to come about soon.

The population level in the world has risen to 7 billion putting increased demands on limited resources and has increased poverty, the death rate and violent conflict. Government mandated limits on the number of children people can have, abortion and parental killings of female babies which are undesirable forms of population control. The new record is causing unemployment and underdevelopment, along with economic and political hysteria. I don’t believe we should stop having children or have polices that encourage female infanticide; however we need to find a way to control our numbers. One proven theory, which may reduce fertility rates, is a focus on women’s education.
To start, researchers and scholars have found a strong relationship between fertility and education. There is an argument in India associating a 10% increase in the female literacy rate with a total 0.5 decrease in total fertility rate. To add to that, in 54 developing countries it is found that education causes women to marry at an older age, which limits the number of years, they can and will have children. The education they receive also informs them about contraception, which prevents unwanted pregnancies. We can control population in a positive manner that won’t hurt or offend large groups of people. We don’t have to kill or set limits to help unemployment and control the world economy. The population is going up and this is an approach that can limit the population growth and reach a sustainable plateau.

I am very surprised that the world population is already at 7 billion. It scares me to think of what the world population will reach in another 20 years, if we keep growing so fast. I think that the population will continue to grow in the future, it is hard to stop the growing population because many people want to have families, and in America at least you don’t tell them that they can’t. It is also hard to prove just how limited we are in global and environmental resources, because we all have our own room, and it seems like there will always be space for more.
One of the facts that surprised me most was which countries require the most education. The facts show that Venezuela and Puerto Rico require the most years of education for their kids, which doesn’t seem right to me, because I don’t view those countries as being the most educated. I view European countries and America as being more educated than some parts of South America, but in the US we only require 12 years of education, where in Venezuela and Puerto Rico they require 14 years. However, I think that a lot of Americans go to college, but that doesn’t show up in the facts because the country doesn’t require a student going to college.

When I read some of these articles I was shocked. What shocked me the most was the gender gap, but I knew that the U.S. is very populated. I think that in the future that the United States will just keep growing and getting more and more populated. I also wasn’t really surprised that it was the least visited. Because it seem like everyone already lives here, so what is the need to visit it? I was a little surprised that Brazil was the most visited, I thought it was going to be somewhere in a whole different continent. In the next 50 year I think that the population will continue, and continue to grow. I think there are going to be some problems will resources too. Once we run out or run low on resources the world is going to get out of hands, and out of control. But I think that it is pretty cool to have bunch of people living here so far as diversity.

After reviewing the articles the populations of the countries in the middle east were shocking. I was aware of the fact that the population in China was much larger than the U.S., but not Brazil. I'm actually not as familiar with Brazil as far as it's population or ratio men to women. The gender gap in China was upsetting. In countries like India and China they prefer to have more men than women because men can start working at a younger age and they will always be considered the head of the household. Impoverished women murder their infants if their girls because a girl can't provde for her family nor make a living as a man could. If this goes on the ration or shal I say gender gap between men and women will continue to increase. The population will defiitly increase fifty years from now due to the large and increacing amount of conception around the world. As far as the enviornmental issues, if the population around the world continues to increase our efforts to conserve the plants need to increase as well or else the planet will fail due to the carelessness of others.

I actually thought that we were already over seven billion, but apparently not. We as a species are growing extremely rapidly and in fifty years we'll probably go over ten billion. Now this isn't a bad thing. New human life is a very precious thing and we should keep reproducing. Besides even if we told people not to have children anymore it's not like they would listen. Now it will cause growing environmental problems which is why we need more things like green energy. In the long run I suppose we could run out of space on earth for people to live. This is why I think we should be considering populating other planets. It may seem far fetched right now, but who knows where we could be a hundred years from now.

We as a species are growing rapidly so it does not surprise me that we are over 7 billion people. in 50 years w will probably be overrun with people and there will be no more space for people to live in. This is going to have negative affects on the environment and will need to be carefully watched. I believe that we need to start promoting adoption more as an option for people, but not to regulate how many children you are allowed to have. We may turn to space but this will be only as a last resort. Im not surprised that the most educated countries are not European or us. We are more focused on jobs which we can get easily but in other countries jobs require more education so they get more. I find that we should not be surprised when we come in low on overall ratings because we may "run the world" but we arent going to be the forerunners for long.
