    Title: Explosions rock Boston Marathon
    URL: http://www.cnn.com/2013/04/15/us/boston-marathon-explosions/index.html?hpt=hp_t1
    Date: April 14th, 2013

Just a little bit after the runners crossed the finish line at the Boston Marathon, two explosions rocked the area. The two blants were said to happen only seconds apart and injured about a half dozen people. While it is still unsure what exactly happened to cause these explosions, police are looking into it. Luckily, no one was killed and only a few were hurt. Paramedics were called to the scene and police were asked to assist in keeping people away for a little bit.

Personally I think that this is a little wierd. The timing seems really ironic considering that there were tons of people there just moments before. The police and others are still unsure why this happens but it doesnt seem like a coincidence to me. It might be, but I would be surprised. But considering all of this, I am just glad no one was too hurt or killed.

2 killed, more than 100 hurt in Boston Marathon bombing
    http://news.blogs.cnn.com/2013/04/15/explosions-near-finish-of-boston-marathon/?hpt=hp_t1
    CNN.com (4/15/13)

On April 15 two explosions occurred (about ten seconds apart) near the finish line of the Boston marathon. The explosions killed two people and injured at least 110 others according to officials. The explosions happened around 2:50 pm (Eastern Time) two hours after the first runners had finished. It is still unclear what and who caused the explosions, but officials think it was a planned incident, possibly involving a terrorist organization. The explosions left many people confused and in panic. People near the disaster reported seeing blood everywhere and people severely injured. Also, another explosion occurred later in the day at the JFK Library (5 miles from the finish line) that was probably related to the other explosion.

I feel very sad for all the people who were hurt and affected by this horrible explosion. It is a truly horrible event. To make matters worse, this explosion occurred at what is supposed to be a great event. The Boston marathon is supposed to be a showcase of the world’s best runners, not a tragic disaster. I can’t imagine being about to finish a marathon, which is a great lifetime milestone, only to be blown aside by an explosion. I think that there was foul play involved; two successive explosions don’t just happen at an event like this. I would guess that a terrorist organization was involved. What caused the horrible explosion? Who did it? What will come out of this terrible tragedy?

Title: Pottery cooked from the start
    Author: Bruce Bower
    Date: April 10, 2013
    Source: sciencenews.org
    URL: http://www.sciencenews.org/view/generic/id/349564/description/Pottery_cooked_from_the_start

Bioarchaeologist Oliver Craig of the University of York in England and his colleagues have analyzed the charred remnants of food inside pottery vessels from hunter-gatherers in Japan from between 15,300 and 11,200 years ago. The chemical analysis showed that the hunter-gatherers cooked fish and other marine organisms. This is a groundbreaking discovery since this shows that food was being cooked and heated up in Japan thousands of years before farming communities were heating their food in vessels. This is also the first finding that solidifies the connection between ancient pottery and cooking. This discovery also poses the possibility that East Asian hunter-gatherers were the ones to introduce pottery making to Europe, not Middle Eastern farmers like previously thought.

I found this article to be very interesting because it changes the way we view history. This one discovery of certain oils in some Japanese ceramic pots has completely changed how we thought pottery got to Europe. This finding will influence the way certain aspects of history, mainly ancient history, are taught. I find this neat because a couple of seemingly insignificant clay pots have changed the way we see history. It may also cause archaeologists to question other parts of ancient Asian history. One question I have about the article is has there been any more evidence that supports East Asian hunter-gatherers giving pottery to the Europeans instead of Middle Eastern farmers, or is that still speculation?

Boy, 8, one of two killed in bombings at Boston Marathon; scores wounded

    1) Two bombs exploded near the finish line of the Boston Marathon. This caused a very bloody scene and at least 134 people being treated in the hospital. These bombs also killed two people, one of eight years of age. Ten people injured had to have one of their limbs amputated and 17 were in critical condition. Experts are still scrambling to find out the details, but it’s for certain that this was a terrorist attack. Witness’ say that it felt like “a huge cannon”.

    2) I think that this is such a crazy turn of events. This disgusts me that someone would bomb spectators and participants of the Boston Marathon. What is even worse is that some of the victims were children. Every single person that was injured there was innocent 100% and did not deserve to end up in a situation like this. I’ve been wondering all day, how would do something like this? Hopefully, the USA will find out who did such a thing, and they will make sure that they’re given a lesson.

    1. Two explosions rocked the Boston Marathon today (Monday) just before 3:00. They were set off about 10 seconds apart. The first one was set off right by the finish line, and the other was set off in the JFK library. It is reported that two people were killed and 130 others were injured. They are not sure if these incidents were related but they are assuming they are. Another unexploded devise was also found.

    2. I think that this is a horrible event. I don’t see how someone can build them selves up to do such a thing especially knowing that all these people are so innocent, also some of the victims were children. I hope the US can find out who did this and figure how to prevent these type of events in the future.

“Boy, 8, one of 3 killed in bombings at Boston Marathon; scores wounded”

This article was about the bombings near the finish line of the Boston Marathon that occurred a little before three o’clock on Monday. These bombs were definitely planned and are thought to have been planned by a terrorist group. However, police are still unsure who could have caused this terrible incident. They were just about ten seconds and 50-100 feet apart. As of now three people have died, including an eight year old boy. Over 140 people are injured with nearly 50 seriously injured. About ten minutes later a third bomb was set off in the JFK library that is thought to be related to the previous two bombings but police are not positive.

I think that that this was very devastating. This event is supposed to be a celebration but in just a matter of seconds it converted to a terrible disaster. I can’t imagine how the families of all the innocent people that are injured or even dead feel right now. I definitely think that this was a planned event and not a coincidence. For all of those runners finishing the race and even the ones being evacuated must be very sad. Not only about the bombings, but all of their hard work and training leading up to this event to not even be able to finish because of the idiot(s) that thought he should bomb the finish line.

At the Boston Marathon yesterday, two bombs exploded and hospitalized at least 144 people. Three people were killed, one of which being an eight-year-old boy. Although there are certainly suspicions, nobody knows who committed the crime yet. Later, there was a third bomb that exploded in the JFK Library which may or may not be related to the previous ones. Many people had to get a limb amputated. This happened at about 3:00 P.M. yesterday afternoon.

I am both saddened and angry about this devastating event. When I found out what happened, I honestly couldn't believe another violent attack had occurred-- within a year, we have experienced so many. My friend's sister was actually at the Boston Marathon when it happened. I am so glad she's okay, however it is horrible that these explosions killed three people, including a young boy. These kinds of situations make me mad as well. It sounds cliche, but I wish people would just stop doing stuff like this. I hope whoever did this gets caught and gets killed. My heart goes out to all families who were affected by this tragic event.

Investigators Search Apartmentafter Boston Marathon Attacks
By Josh Levs and Jethro Mullen

At the Boston marathon yesterday, April 15, two bombs went off near the finish line. Three people were killed and 152 people were injured. Who is behind this attack on Patriots Day still remains unknown. President Barack Obama addressed the attack saying, “any responsible individuals, any responsible groups, will feel the full weight of justice." The FBI is investigating what happened, trying to find out exactly what happened with the bombs, who was involved, and their motives. They have a couple leads, including a man seen trying to enter a restricted area several minutes before the bombs went off.

I have no idea why someone would want to bomb a marathon. I personally do not think violence solves any problems, but whoever is responsible for the bombs certainly made a statement. A very bad statement. I do not think it is right to hurt innocent people. Everyone was shocked. The runners nearing the finish line had just run 26.2 miles, probably physically exhausted when suddenly a bomb was going off out of nowhere. It is horrible that anyone would want to do this. I hope the person is found and as Barack Obama said, faces the “full weight of justice.”

April 15, 2013 the Boston Marathon was being held in downtown Boston. Around the 4hours and 9 minuets mark a bomb exploded ner the finish line. Just a couple of blocks away a second bomb errupted less then 20 seconds later. A third bomb was found but detonated in a controled explosion by law enforcement.

This was a terrible thing that happened yesterday, I am personally convinced that there was some type of radicalist group behind these explosions. The reason that i think this is because what person is their right mind would just set up bombs and dentonaate them just to kill random people. Granted there are some crazy people out there but I am fully convinced this was an act of terrorism.

    1. Yesterday around 3:00 p.m. two bombs were detinated at the finish line of the Boston Marathon, a famous marathon that is held each year. The bombs went off ten seconds apart and they were 50-100 yards away from one another. There are three confirmed dead and over 150 in the hospital. One of the departed was and eight year old boy watching the marathon. The F.B.I has now taken the lead on the case, and are treating it as a possible act of teroism. There are no prime suspects at this point.

    2. I cant believe that something like this happened. Especially at an event like the Boston Marathon. THat could be the last place I ever would have suspected for a bombing attack. Personally I hope it wasnt an act of terroism or act of violence by another country, because then that could mean a war would break out, which would not be good for anyone.

There was an earthquake in Pakistan, close to the border of Iran. As a result of the earthquake, 34 people have died and 80 people are injured. Rescue efforts are being held in Mashakel. The earthquake had a 7.8 magnitude. The epicenter of this earthquake was around 50 miles north of Saravan. The earthquake damaged many shops but luckily did not damage any nuclear plants. Aftershocks will last for days or weeks with an earthquake of this magnitude.

It is sad to hear that 34 people have died in this earthquake. The earthquake also destroyed many shops. I feel bad for those shop owners since they will have to rebuild them again, and that will take a lot of time and money. I hope that those people injured will start to feel better soon. Overall, the earthquake that happened was a dreary event that impacted a lot of people’s lives in Pakistan negatively.

Boy, 8, one of 3 killed in bombings at Boston Marathon; scores wounded.

Two bombs struck near the finish line of the Boston Marathon on Monday, turning a celebration into a bloody scene of destruction. Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis said Monday night that the death toll had risen to three. Scores were injured at the scene. One of the dead was an 8-year-old boy, according to a state law enforcement source. Hospitals reported at least 144 people are being treated, with at least 17 of them in critical condition and 25 in serious condition. At least eight of the patients are children. At least 10 people injured had limbs amputated, according to a terrorism expert briefed on the investigation.

Tragedies and stuff like that happen, it doesn't invade every single part of your life. Those kind of reactions of like, we can't talk about this or we can't talk about something that could be related to something, that someone could infer from that, that they could then apply to a different part of their life and be insulted by it and so we shouldn't be allowed to talk about it.

People do these kinds of things, they put bombs in crowds because they can't effect people on a massive scale. A massive bomb going off in a densely crowded pack of people it killed 3 people and it hurt 111 people. Those are big numbers, but a lot more people die all the time.

What the real weapon is is fear and terror. People like you, saying things like that feed into it. You're the one with the problem, not us. These people are monsters - anyone who is going to take a bomb and put in a crowd of people, they are a monster. We are not the monsters. The rest of us you are not the monster, OK. And just like these make-believe monsters that people get scared of, they feed off of fear as well.

So what we cannot do is play into that. We cannot let them feed off of our fear. We cannot give the pleasure of watching us like little children jump from the carpet to the bed. We can't let them witness us running up the basement stairs after we flick off the light because we are afraid. The point I'm making here is that you cannot give into it - you cannot play into that fear. We are not the monsters - these people are the monsters, OK. We do not have to be afraid of the dark that they live it. That is the point. Don't fall into it - this is what happens every time, and people get up in arms about things and they get emotional, and make emotional decisions that effect the rest of our lives. The best thing that you can do is help people who are hurt, and get them back on their feet in a real effective manner, and then figure out how to go forward from there, and don't celebrate these people by being afraid of them.

On Monday, April 15th a tragic bombing occurred during the Boston Marathon. Two bombs were placed a couple blocks away from each other near the finish line of the race. During a certain point during the race the bombs exploded killing a few people, injuring many, and leaving a ton of people without hearing for a decent chunk of time. Since this event has happened many things have been placed up in the media to draw people's attention. However, these things are not true. A man planned to propose and his girlfriend was killed, a young girl died at finish line, the race organizers will donate for retweets, the authorities shut down the cell phone services, and conspiracy theories that have been going around are all proven false.

First off, this event in the first place was traumatic and very sudden. I don't know how someone would be able to plan this and have the drive to go through with it. Secondly, to have people abusing this event to have more social media gains is sad as well. I thought this article highlighted what the 21st century has come to. Also, I hope that the U.S. is able to find out who did this and put all these false accusations to rest.

i think that this act of injustice is a very cruel one and there has still not been a cause discovered i read another article in which they pointed out how the bombings were timed very cruelly they did it right when the most people would be finishing the race and when the red sox game had let out and so everyone walking to the marathon had just arrived at the finish when the bombs did in fact go off i think that who ever did this did not get the reaction they were looking for seeing that the town of boston was helping with out fear and instead of running away were running to the explosions in order to help victims it must have been a slap in the face to who ever did this because the town is not broken this will only make them stronger and more resilient

FBI Will Try to Rebuild Bomb

On Monday, there was a tragic bombing at the Boston Marathon. Inside the bomb there were nails and BB's designed to kill or wound people as well as the bomb itself. The bomb was inside a pressure cooker. The FBI is trying to get people who heard people talking about a bomb or saw people carrying a large black bag to step forward. A representative of the FBI said that public cooperation will be very important in this case. So far, there has been no trails that the FBI can follow, and no one has taken responsibility.
I think that this was a bad sign. If this was a Radical Muslim group behind this, than it is a sign that our war on terror is not over, no matter where our troops. I think that this is a very tragic event, that is almost comparable to 9/11. I am not sure how easily the FBI will be able to find the culprit, because the bomb that was exploded is a very generic homemade bomb.

Sadness, resolve as Boston comes to grips with deadly marathon bombing

The terror attack on the Boston Marathon on Monday resulted in the deaths of many, including an 8-year old child, a 29-year old woman and a Boston University graduate from China. Around 180 people were wounded, some lost limbs as the bombs went off near the finish line. The FBI are still looking for potential suspects but they had any luck finding one. President Obama has stated that investigators do not know whether the bombing was a work of an organized group or an individual. It is likely that the bomb was hidden in a backpack or bag.
I think that this event was very sad. People were killed and wounded from this incident. If a terrorist group were behind this then that means that the terrorist groups have not been fully defeated. This event could be a precursor to war or tightened security everywhere. In a country that is considered safe by many, fear could work it's way into the citizens.

    Boston Marathon Explosion http://CNN.com/events/country/.boston.marathon/explosion_gyr256/report

This article is about the Boston marathon explosion. At the end of the marathon two explosions from trash cans terrified the stands and runners. Two confirmed deaths have been given to the public. One was an eight year old boy cheering on his father in the race. The first explosion was caused from a bomb in a near by trash can. Within the bomb, there were peices of metal and other sharp objects causing hundreds of leg injuries. One teenage boy became double amputated on his legs. Another on her arm. The last mile of the race was dedicated to the Sandy Hook famililes with some of famillies near the finish line. However, none of those families were hurt. One runner said as he was running to the finish line the explosions happened. The force of the explosion knocoked him to the ground and a picture of him surronded by police men was on the sport ilustrated cover for this month. Around 150 people were injured and about half of those were very severe.
In my opinoin, this is just as terrible as any other attack. Its ridiculous that people can't even run a race without something happenening now. This also brings us back to the 9/11 attack. I read that the FBI is unsure if it was a terrorist attack or an in country attack. President Obama spoke last night saying that they will find the people responsible for this. I think its terrible that so many people are injured but at least not a huge amount of people died. I also think that this brings us back to gun control in this country. Stricter gun control could of prevented something like these and many other attacks.

    Boston Marathon False Stories
Today I read an article titled 5 viral stories about Boston attacks that aren’t true on CNN.com. This article was published Doug Gross, updated today, April 17, 2013.
This article discusses five stories of the attack spread through the internet that are false. It mentions many tweets, pictures, or facebook posts that are completely fake. The first post mentioned is a picture of a man kneeling over an injured woman on the road. This picture was released with a false story that he was going to propose to her but she passed away. In reality this man was comforting a woman injured from the attack. This article also disproves two stories of eight year olds who were killed while running the marathon. In addition it exposed a twitter account which promised a donation for each retweet it receives. The article also cleared up theories about police disabling phone service to prevent the attacker from communicating when in reality the service was slow and spotty due to the amount of usage following the attacks. Lastly the article exposed pictures and websites claiming to know who the attacker is based off of a picture of a blurry silhouette on a rooftop.
By now the information regarding the Boston Marathon Bombings has been released. I remember immediately following this incident there was a flood of outrageous information through twitter and facebook that seemed far fetched. During the direct aftermath of the bombing, only pieces of information was released regarding the event. Therefore no one could possibly know what happened, allowing false stories to go viral. Living in a technological world, information spreads quickly through social networking sites, television or the radio. I remember going on facebook and twitter in the hours following the bombings and seeing posts or tweets of eight year olds killed while running the marathon, or pictures showing a blurry subject standing on a building who must be the attacker. After reading this article I am sickened that a person could be driven to make up false stories about people who died to get the most retweets or shares. It simply disgusts me that a person would disrespect another who was killed so tragically by making up the story of their death. Instead of spreading lies, I think we should honor these people and show respect for our fallen citizens.

5 viral stories about Boston attacks that aren't true By Doug Gross, CNN
updated 5:34 AM EDT, Wed April 17, 2013

The article that I just read was centered around the Boston Marathon bombing that happened on Monday. There are at least five theories of what happened at the Boston Marathon going around and this article shuts them down. One of the biggest ones was that a man was planning to propose to his girlfriend as she crossed the finish line but she passed away before he could. It was a fake theory attached to a real photo. The photo was not of a man and his girlfriend. It was a photo of a random man comforting a woman who was injured in the blast. They did not know each other and they certainly weren't going to get married. This theory, among others, was disproved by this article.

I have only heard three of the theories listed on this article, but they're pretty out there. I saw the @Pray4Boston account and the @_BostonMarathon accounts and i knew they weren't true. I suspected that the picture of the guy leaning over a woman wasn't as it seemed. It's horrible that people would make up stories about how two 8 years olds died while running the Boston Marathon just to get attention. It's stupid and mean. All they wanted were a couple retweets to seem popular. I just think people shouldn't make fun of the horrible events that happened. People are doing this to get attention and it's just horrible.

Runners came from all over the world to take place in the race and represent something. Some people who ran were supporting the recent tragedy shooting and others ran for loved ones who had passed.
Around 150 people were injured and about half of those were very severe.
President Obama spoke last night saying that they will find the people responsible for this. I think its terrible that so many people are injured but at least not too many people died. Gun control may be an even more controversial subject now that we have had countless tragedy in out country. Many people are not at ease because they do not know is they will be safe when walking out the door. This was such a terrible tragedy and it really makes a lot of us uneasy about our safety.

Boy killed in Boston blast wrote, 'No more hurting people'

    By Ashley Fantz, CNN

The eight year old Martin Richard was killed in the Boston bombing. His mother, Denise, was also hurt. She is undergoing surgery for the shrapnel that hit her head. His six year old sister was also hurt in the bombing. She lost her leg. Martin’s father is a community leader and was at the marathon, but he was not hurt. People arrived at the Richard’s home and placed flowers outside their home. There was also the word “peace” written on the driveway. Two others were killed in this bombing, and many more injured. There was a vigil of more than 1000 people for the three who were killed. Many are sad to have lost such an enthusiastic and pleasant little boy.

I find this whole occurrence terrible. Who would want to attack innocent people? The people in the crowd did no wrong. They were there to support those who were running the race. I do not understand why someone would intentionally hurt others. Many were affected by this horrendous act, and I feel sympathy for everyone who was affected. No one should have to go through a traumatic event like this. I am truly sorry for everyone who lost a loved one and is affected by this bombing.

Boston Marathon bombing heroes: Running to help

    By Alan Duke, CNN

My article was about the recent Boston bombing and all the people who helped. When the first bomb went off, instead of running away, people ran towards the bomb to help the wounded people. They told the story of one man whose son had died 9 years ago in war. After his sons death he started to raise money and help people in need. He was watching the race from the opposite side of the road when the first bomb went off. He immediately ran towards the bomb to help the wounded. Another man, who is a medical professional, was running in the race when he saw the bomb go off. He said afterwards that this was the fastest he had ever seen a crowd react to a trauma like the one in Boston.

I think that all the people who ran in to help were very brave. You would imagine that if a bomb goes off that most people would initial react by running away no towards the bomb. The people that ran in to help save a lot of lives and calmed a lot of the victims. Even after all the people had been brought to hospitals, or helped, people still did more. The hospitals got so many people willing to give blood that they ended up having to send some away. Even this helped to save lives.

On April 15 two explosions occurred near the finish line of the Boston marathon. The explosions killed two people and injured at least 110 others according to officials. The explosions happened around 2:50 pm two hours after the first runners had finished. It is still unclear what and who caused the explosions, but officials think it was a planned incident, possibly involving a terrorist attack. People near the disaster reported seeing blood everywhere and people severely injured. Also, another explosion occurred later in the day at the JFK Library (5 miles from the finish line) that was probably related to the other explosion.

President Obama spoke last night saying that they will find the people responsible for this. I think its terrible that so many people are injured but at least not too many people died. 4 Year Old H7N9 bird Flu carrier and worries China

    1) 4 years ago the Chinese discovered a flu named H7N9, that birds are carrying the virus. Scientists are researching and experimenting what is this new virus. A professor of the School of Public Health University of Hong Kong says that there is no evidence that the virus can passed by human to human. Health officials in China say that there has been 77 cases of the virus, and 16 deaths. In effort to contain the problem eastern parts of China have shut down trading ports.

    2) What I think about this situation is that its not going to be a big problem if China is maintaining it. My thoughts are why is China saying this and acting now then doing this earlier when it started? If there is no solution then well see in the next months how it goes. Just hope to not make the virus a pandemic problem.

    1) When Runners of the famous Boston Marathon were finishing a 26 Mile run, the first of two explosive devices went off, shortly followed by a second explosion, injuring about two hundred people and killing at least 3. There are 17 people in critical condition, and 25 in serious condition, with at least 10 amputations. President Barack Obama said that we will find whoever did this and that they will feel the full weight of justice.
    2) I think that innocent people were killed out of hate, and that is a horrible thing. I think that terrorism is a horrible thing that needs to be abolished. I think that if people just talked about their problems and disagreements then we could come to an agreement. There is no reason why people who have trained hard and run in a marathon should be targeted, they are doing what they like to do and the conclution of the marathon should of been a happy time for them, not a time to be filled with blood, confusion and terror.

This is a very sad event that left many injured. three people were killed including an eight year old boy. this is just a terrible event. The fact that there were nails and other shrapanel in the bomb to do extra damage is terrible because it is leading many amputations and ruining so many peoples lives.

Information was obtained by the FBI regarding the bombs used in the Boston Marathon Bombing. One was put in a pressure cooker. The second was in a metal container and it is unclear wether it was in a pressure cooker or not. The evidence was transported to the head of the FBI to be examined for further clues. The bombs are thought to have contained ball bearings and nails to function as shrapnel when the bombs went off. Many of the doctors who are working on patients who were injured in the attacks have reported nails being removed from victims.

The bombing which killed 3 and injured over a 100 was horrible. The Boston Marathon is an American tradition and for it now to be tainted by bombs is very sad. I can’t believe someone would have done something like this especially after events like Newtown, CT.

"Most Children In Greece Start to Go Hungry," by Liz Alderman
    http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/18/world/europe/more-children-in-greece-start-to-go-hungry.html?pagewanted=1&_r=0

This article talks about the extreme hunger in Greece today. As most already know, Greece's economy is on a steep, steep fall. This isn't just causing problems for the government, but children, our age and younger, are suffering from hunger. These are upscale families - they live in nice apartments with flatscreen TVs and video game consoles - and they don't eat anything but pasta and ketchup.

Frankly, this is terrible. Thinking of kids my age coming to school so hungry that they pass out (yes, it happened) is just unheard of. But it's happening. Parents are getting laid off from their jobs and are unable to make money. Although health programs in Greece have taken steps to providing food at schools, it's not enough. 41% of Greek families still experience "medium to serious hunger." That's nearly half the population, folks. Although I don't know what, something has got to be done. I can't imagine going for a day without food, much less two or three. It's not a problem that can be fixed long-term, because then what'll happen? People will die of hunger. It's got to be fixed, and it's got to be fixed now.

On Monday, during the end of the Boston Marathon, two bombs exploded around the area. About ten minutes later a third bomb was set off in the JFK library that is thought to be related to the previous two bombings but police are not positive.
I think this event is horrible, and why would someone explode the bombs at the end of the race? To make the runners not feel happy? A innocent kid was killed while he was cheering for his dad which makes me want to cry because its just awful to hear. I'm happy that the Boston Celtics are helping the city of Boston help with this situation.

The article that I chose was an account of Monday’s bombings during the Boston Marathon. The article described the traumatic event, and provided statistics about the casualties, which include over 170 people, and three deaths. It mainly focused on the situation in the hospitals, and how doctors are having to treat the patients. The blasts injured several runners, as well as spectators watching the race. Most people are having to be amputated, mainly around the legs.
The article mentioned a lot of details regarding injuries, and I can’t imagine having to go through as much suffering as those involved did. In one part the article talked about the runners having to be amputated, and the possibilities of them never being able to run again. I hope that the victims will be able to recuperate from this experience, and continue with their lives. In another part it described how much of the victims were treated on the site, with medical tents pitched prior to treat those who were dehydrated as in years past. I think this was a lucky break despite the chaos that occurred, and likely saved the lives of many.

This Monday, April 15 at approximately 2:50 pm a tragedy struck america. Two bombs went off at the finish line of the Boston Marathon. The explosions happened at the 4:09 mark of the race. At least three people have died so far. 140 people have been injured. One of the people killed was an 8 year old boy. Many people have had their limbs amputated. The scene was very bloody and horrific. The bombs were thought to have been made using a pressure cooker. The FBI are now in search of two men who were seen standing by the finish line, who are suspects for causing the bombings. The medical cost alone for the bombings could add up to millions.
I think what happened was terrible. Especially because the last mile of the race was dedicated to the sandy hook children. I feel so bad for anyone who was affected by these bombings. It scares me because you would not expect a bombing to occur at something so random as a marathon. I do think its good that only 3 people have died so far. I know its not really “good”, but its better than hundreds or thousands. Luckily I do not know anyone who lives in Boston. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of those killed, and to anyone who was injured.

Two men were photographed walking single file down Boylston Street near the finish line of Monday's marathon. These suspects planted two bombs that killed three, including an eight year old boy. The FBI is asking people for help on where these two men might be. If you know anything, call 800-CALL-FBI (800-225-5324). Suspect 1 was seen wearing a light-colored, collarless shirt underneath a dark-colored jacket and wearing a dark baseball cap. Suspect 2 was seen wearing a light-colored hooded sweatshirt, a black jacket and a white baseball cap turned backward.

This might be the saddest event of the year. To think that someone would want to hurt innocent people is crazy. I can’t wait for these idiot people to get caught. Anyone that has the slightest lead on where these guys might be should defiantly let the FBI know. I have a lot of trust in them that they will find these people.

    1) I do not think there should be specific limitations made when it comes to allowing some passengers (handicapped, children, etc.), to forego standard security procedures, but there should be more consideration for those types of passengers. They should be treated with care, but limitations honestly shouldn’t be necessary unless this becomes a much more serious issue to Americans.

    2) I neither agree nor disagree with the TSA’s actions regarding the 3-year-old’s wheelchair incident. I think the mother was a bit overprotective, but I can definitely understand why she wouldn’t want some random people to touch her 3-year old disabled baby girl.

The TSA could have handled the situation with more care, and could have explained the situation more. Most mothers in that situation probably would have allowed their child to be searched if the TSA were courteous, kind, and apologized for the regulations.

Joe Berti could be considered one of the luckiest or unluckiest men this week. This past Monday, he ran in the famous Boston Marathon—only to be greeted 30 seconds after finishing with two bombs. Joe and his wife escaped unscathed and flew back to their hometown: Austin, Texas. Joe went back to work. He was driving up to Dallas for a meeting when he heard yet another explosion. He took some pictures, and made it safely back to his home. The Bertis consider themselves extremely lucky; especially considering Amy Berti was thirty yards from the explosion. A woman standing right next to her had her leg blown off and lost all her fingers. They are grateful and pray for those who were less fortunate in those explosions.

I feel really sorry for this guy—two traumatic explosions in one week. He seems pretty calm for someone that had to live through both of the events. This week seems to be very destructive in general. I wonder if there’s any significance behind the date the bombers chose, other than the fact that the Boston Marathon was that day. I hope they find out the motives behind the attack and who was responsible. They already have a few suspects lined up or have spotted suspicious figures on security tapes and need to catch them. The Texas explosion was just as tragic, with even more loss of life. Hopefully, next week will have some good news.

There were two bombings at the finish line of the Boston Marathon. The witnesses said the noise of the bombs were like "cannons." An eight year old boy was one of three killed. Over 144 people were reported to be treated in the hospital. 17 of them were in critical condition and 25 were in serious condition. 10 injured patients had amputations. The bombs were about ten seconds apart in timing and around 50-100 feet apart. Another bomb was set off in the JFK library, it's thought to be related to the finish line bombings but there is no hard evidence.

I think the Boston Bombings are horrific. Why of all ways to make a point or get a message across, would you bomb a marathon? Imagine you just ran 26.2 miles, you wouldn't want to finish and have that feeling of accomplishment ruined by three deaths and over 140 injured. The Boston Marathon is completely unrelated to todays politics. It's a celebration of joy, happiness, and achievement. No one has the right to destroy that. The bombing was cowardly, and foolish. No matter how much you hide, America will bring justice. It took us ten years, but we finally got Osama Bin Laden. But of all the ways to make a statement, why the Boston Marathon?

    1) Just Monday, during the Boston Marathon in Boston, Massachusetts two bombs were set off right by the finish line at 2:45 pm. So far, three are dead, two being young women and one being an 8-year-old boy. There are hundreds of injured though. Some have also had to have amputations. Many people are in urgent care currently. The FBI is currently trying to find a suspect. They have classified this as a “terrorist act”, but they do not know yet if it was foreign or domestic terrorists.
    2) What happened on Monday truly devastated me. Three years ago, my dad ran the marathon and I can remember what a joyful experience it was for him and the rest of my family. We stood right where those bombs went off and cheered him on, without having to think twice about anything bad happening. Thankfully, my dad did not run this year. But, he did have a friend who finished the race 40 seconds before the bombs went off. He recently wrote an email to my dad and other friends in their running group. He talked about what a happy experience it was for him and how he was so overcome with joy during the race, just to be running it, and that all changed 40 seconds after the finish line. It went from pure joy to the worst day of his life. I have a hard time holding it together when I see pictures from the race. I see places I’ve stood and even taken pictures that are now scared with the face of terror. The only thing I have to say is that whoever did it deserves justice for the evil thing they have done. They are a sick, sick disgrace to the human race, whoever they are.

Thousands of light years away, three planets were recently found by NASA researchers that are thought to be in habitable atmosphere. This trio of planets (Kepler-62 c, d, and f) rotate around a star similar to the Earth’s sun, and fit close enough the requirements for habitable life that the scientists have grown more interested in researching it. They have discovered that these planets are about 70% larger than Earth, but it is unknown whether water, carbon dioxide, or oxygen exist. These discoveries are big steps to gain more information about the huge galaxy that surrounds our tiny Earth.

I think this is pretty fantastic. Space is amazing, and the discovery that these planets could potentially be habitable, hosting any sort of life form at all, is really interesting. Though these planets are thousands of light years away, scientists are still trying to gather information about them. I hope they do. Just imagining if there is another planet out there that could host life forms can make your mind go crazy all day. I hope the scientists working on this are successful in finding planets like these closer to Earth, though, so that they can find more details (unlike this trio).

Title: How the Traditional Role of a Goalkeeper Is Changing.
    URL http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1608952-how-the-traditional-role-of-a-goalkeeper-is-changing

Paragraph #1. Football changes every single season, be it from a financial perspective, a rules perspective or, increasingly, a positional perspective. The goalkeeper soccer's unsung hero, the man who does the job so you don't have to is undergoing borderline surgical change in his tendencies and responsibilities. Adjustment is not new to the goalkeeping breed, and you can plot several points in history where the man between the sticks has had his experience altered. There was a period when goalkeepers could pick up intentional backpasses from their own players, making the 'keeper a safe, go-to guy in the face of pressure. But that rule was abolished in 1992 due to excessive time-wasting and an overly cautious 1990 FIFA World Cup. There was also a time in which a goalkeeper would rarely finish a 90-minute game without blood pouring from some sort of head wound, but now referees tend to overcorrect and, subsequently, overprotect the man with the gloves.
Paragraph #2 This change is a large change for soccer. Being a soccer player for 12 years now I see that protecting the goalie is a major thing. Many injuries to all the goalies I've played against. The small stuff from concussions to broken fingers, and even the bigger more crucial injuries. For example, ive seen three goalies break there legs in the past year and a half. I've seen many broken arms and wrists also. There was one goalie whose injury i will never forget. Peter Czec goal keeper for Chelsea Football Club over in england suffered a severe head injury about 3-4 years back. He was kicked in the head on a clearance of the ball and went out cold. He recovered and now has a couple of metal plates in his head. This injury could have resulted in many other ways, that is why protecting the goalie is so important, and im glad they are respecting that now in this sport.

Two bombs went off within 2 seconds of each other near the finish line at the Boston Marathon. The bombs have killed 3 people and have left hundreds injured. The youngest that died was an 8 year old boy, he was there with his family watching the race. His bomb has left hundreds having to do amputations. The FBI has found 2 people that are brothers that they think are responsible for the attacks. One has been killed in a shoot out outside Boston. The other brother got away and is still on the run.

I think that what has happened at the Boston Marathon is one of the worst things that could happen to the country at this time. The fact that people do things likes this really makes me sick. I don't understand why people do such a thing. I am very glad that they have found the people and have an idea where they are. Also an 8 year old child died in the attack. He was only 8 years old and he got killed during something that sound not of even happened and that makes me really sad.

    Bombing manhunt locks down Boston
    http://www.cnn.com/2013/04/19/us/boston-area-violence/index.html
    CNN, 4/19/13

Recently, the two suspects of the Boston bombings have been found, although one is dead, and the other is on the run. The escaping fugitive has nearly shutdown the entire city. A man identified by several sources as Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, died after an overnight shootout with police. He's the man described Thursday by the FBI as black-capped Suspect No. 1 in the attacks Monday that killed three. His brother, Dzhokar Tsarnaev, apparently escaped -- leading police to throw a huge dragnet around the region. In photos released by the FBI of the bombing suspects, the younger brother is seen wearing a white cap. The agency called him Suspect No. 2.

I think this is really interesting because all of the people that got interviewed that had social connections or personal experiences with Dzokar Tsarnaev say he is innocent, or should not be accused of these bombing/terrorist attacks. I hope he is caught and interrogated, because a loose terrorist could mean a variety of problems. Even his teacher said he is not capable of such violence. Police ordered businesses in the suburb of Watertown and nearby communities to stay closed and told residents to stay inside and answer the door for no one but authorities. Boston authorities advised the same. The city's subway, bus, Amtrak train systems and Greyhound and Bolt Bus -- a regional carrier -- have been shut down. Taxi service across the city also was suspended for a time during the manhunt. Every Boston area school is closed.

Boston Marathon bomber manhunt: City on lockdown as authorities hunt for bomb suspect by Jason Sickles and Liz Goodwin

    1. This article is about the Boston Marathon bombings and the guy responsible for it. One suspect, named Tamerlan Tsarnaev, was shot and killed during a police chase. The other, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, is on the run. The streets of Boston have been cleared to help with the man hunt. The two suspects were brothers from the country Chechnyan.
    2. It is very sad to me that somebody would do such a thing. Killing three people and injuring 170 is horrible. I want to know why they did it. Was it an act of terrorism? I hope that Tamerlan Tsarnaev is caught because he did a terrible thing and needs to be taken off the streets.

On Wednesday, April 17 a fire broke out in a fertilizer plant in West, Texas. The fire caused an explosion that impacted a 5 block radius. The blast registered as a 2.1 level seismic event. The force of the blast ripped down walls of houses and knocked people down. Twelve bodies have been recovered so far, but 60 more are unaccounted for. The explosion also left over 200 people injured and destroyed 50 houses. The blast has had a large impact on the people of West, which is a small town of only 2,800 people. Half of the town has been evacuated, including the nursing home close to the plant. Several emergency personnel have died as well.

I picked this story because this tragic event came right after another one, the Boston Marathon bombings. It is sad to see the tragedies these cities are going through because of these explosions. Even though this incident is presumably not purposeful, it still caused loss of many lives and properties. The residents of the town will not be the same again and will have to rebuild from scratch. I think a positive thing that has come from both these events is a show of resiliency. Even though devastating things have happened in these communities, they are pulling through to restore normalcy.

Updates on the Aftermath of Boston Marathon Explosion
    By Robert Mackey

    New York Times blog
    http://thelede.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/04/19/updates-on-aftermath-of-boston-marathon-explosions-2/

This past Monday, at the finish line of the Boston marathon, two bombs went off in succession. These explosions killed three and injured over 170 other individuals. Since the initial explosions, Boston has been in a security emergency. Two suspects, brothers Tamerlan and Dzhokahr were identified and labeled as such by the FBI. Since then, Tamerlan was involved in a gunfight with the Police, which ended up with Tamerlan’s death and the death of an M. I. T. campus police officer. Police are still on the lookout for Dzhokahr, and in certain areas of Boston residents have been warned to stay indoors for their own safety.
The events of this past Monday are terrible. I can’t imagine anyone who would want to hurt people in such a way. I hope that the remaining suspect is apprehended and that it turns out that he and his brother were culpable for the bombs, because the whole situation would get even worse if it turned out that the main suspects are innocent, especially because one is already dead. Also, then the biggest lead that the police had would be gone. I’m wondering, also, how the citizens of Boston are dealing with the situation and their daily lives, especially because my cousins and their family are moving to Boston in a few weeks.

“FBI confirms letters to Obama, others contained ricin”
By Ed Payne, Matt Smith, Carol Cratty

    Friday, April 19 2013
    http://www.cnn.com/2013/04/18/politics/tainted-letter-intercepted/index.html?hpt=hp_t3

On Thursday, the FBI concluded that a strange powder in letters to President Obama and other government figures contained the poison ricin. Ricin is a poison made easily and cheaply, and only a very tiny amount of it kills a man. Luckily, they have gotten a suspect and will hold him in custody until the indictment to his attempt to cause the president and others physical harm is decided. Accordingly, the man who supposedly sent multiple letters containing a strange substance (most likely ricin) is Paul Kevin Curtis from Corinth, Mississippi. As the author of the book Missing Pieces, the messages sent in the letters stated both the title of his book and a well-known quote about wrongs and telling about them (Raymond Baker), so there may have been a purpose in his letters besides killing government figures, although his ex-wife has said that he was against the government and crazy. With the threat of fifteen years in jail and multiple letters already sent, Paul Kevin Curtis, an Elvis impersonator, awaits the verdict.

Overall, this article, I thought, did a great job on outlining the facts, be they important or somewhat irrelevant. The writing was okay, the quotations helped my understanding, and the way the piece was broken into sections made this article easy and informative to read. Not that this is a fact, but on an NCIS episode, a letter was sent to a character containing a deadly powder, and so I connected with that as I read. First of all, though, the article made me feel like the possible culprit was not bright, although I worry about any lunatic trying to kill others, and so I think that since his ex-wife called him crazy, he should be tested for that and then put in a mental facility if so. The article said the letters were very probably having nothing to do with the bombings in Boston. Compared to what we are learning in class: opium and ricin are both substances that have the ability to be deadly, there is government involved in both events, etc. Question: What kind of punishment would you issue to the culprit?

Blast in Popular Baghdad Coffee Shop Kills at Least 27

    http://www.cnn.com/2013/04/18/world/meast/iraq-violence/index.html?hpt=wo_c2

1.On thursday night, in a coffee shop located in western Baghdad, a bomb exploded, killing 27 people and wounding 51 as a result. The coffee shop was located at the top of a three story building that also included an ice cream parlor and medical offices. The area the blast took place in is a Sunni neighborhood protected by walls and guarded by soldiers. This makes the event all the more frightening, as despite all the security, the bombing was still able to take place. This bombing was one of many that have been taking place throughout Baghdad. Some worry that the situation could affect the voting outcome in the upcoming election, as many are afraid that polling stations may come under attack, and do not vote because of it.

    2. Lately I have heard very little about the situation in Baghdad. Despite all the bombings that are still taking place there, the media's focus has definitely moved on. So, I was a bit surprised when I read about this bombing. Another thing I hadn't realized was that there was an election going on there. The fact that I have not heard more about this on the radio surprises me. The idea that the voting results may be altered due to the bombings concerns me. Baghdad's future may be decided by this vote, and I hope that it will go smoothly and fairly.

Boy Scouts Move to Lift Ban on Gay Youth Members/Erik Eckholm

    http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/20/us/boy-scouts-move-to-lift-ban-on-gay-members.html?hp&_r=0

This article is about the lifting of the ban of gay youths who were/want to be boyscouts. While this is a step forward, gay cub scout leaders are still banned. This is because the Scouts' National Council believes that they would possibly be inappropriate role models. The event caused much uproar from both conservatives and gay rights activists. The conservatives claim that the Boy Scouts have caved to political pressures, while the gay rights activists say that they should allow gay Cub Scout leaders lest be discriminatory.
I selected this article because gay rights have been a huge controversy, mostly in the past decade, with gay rights activists swelling in numbers. I think that there shouldn't be any type of ban on people who can partake in Boy Scouts because in my opinion, it's completely unprofessional and something that we should have outgrown by now. The current event is significant because there has been a lot of gay rights news and movements.

The United States Supreme court heard a case regarding the patenting of genes. The case revolves around a group of institutions attacking Myriad for patenting the gene for two genetic diseases. Many research groups and other companies want access to the genes so they can develop treatments or do research. They are suing because they believe that people should have the ability to use things that are found inside of every single person.
I believe that a gene should not be patented because they are not a thing developed by a person. Because everyone has a copy of this gene research and tests should not be limited to who ever is fasted. Also tests can become very expensive and that makes it much harder for patients to get better. I believe that it should be something along the line of drug laws. When a drug company creates a new drug they are the only company that is allowed to produce it. But when time runs out any one can make the drug. If the same were true of discovery of gene then groups would have an advantage but it would help keep the price of treatment and testing down.

Seconds after the Boston Marathon bombs exploded, David Green pulled out his smartphone and took a photo of the chaos developing a couple hundred yards in front of him — the smoke, the people running in panic. He then put his phone back in his pocket and went to help the injured. It wasn't until Thursday, when officials released surveillance video of the two suspects in the twin blasts, that Green realized what he had — a picture of Suspect No. 1. After the FBI released photos of the two suspects, that he decided to take a closer look at Green's photograph. There in the lower left corner of the photo was Tsarnaev walking around a corner, his backward white baseball cap standing out. Immediately he sent the picture to the FBI.
I think it is cool that one of the most important leads in the case was supplied to the FBI by a normal person. Nowadays, with the portrayal in the media of the FBI it has the impression of an all-knowing organization. It is situations like this that make the FBI seem more human and easier to understand. Also, the search will really be helped by this runner’s contribution. So, I think we could all learn from this event.

There was a massive explosion in a Texas fertilizer plant on Wednesday. Directly after the explosion 60 people reported into hospitals with various injuries. It was a West plant that was 18 miles North of the city Waco. There is still one intact tank left so the the city issued a mass evacuation of 2600 residents. Some firefighters were concerned about the threat of anhydrous ammonia which is a poisonous gas.
Although the fertilizer companies know that fertilizer has the potential to explode, it is not likely that it would. Fertilizer has a low chance to explode. I think the fertilizer may have exploded if it was under intense heat or caught fire. Still the thought of a massive explosion with any slightly explosive material is a thing to be wary of. States might have to put new laws into place concerning the safety of these types of factories.

    http://www.cnn.com/2013/04/18/politics/tainted-letter-intercepted/index.html?hpt=us_c2

In addition to all of the terrorist activity going on in America in Boston and Texas a ricin infected letter was intercepted that was going to be delivered to President Obama, a US senator and a Judge. The suspect for this crime was arrested and is in custody his name is Kevin Curtis. Curtis works as an Elvis Impersonator and has been told he is extremely delusional from his Ex-wife. He refuses to admit to his crime but the note he wrote in the letter appeared identically on his Facebook page. Ricin is a poison that has no antidote and can kill a person with just a small drop of it. It has been used in attacks in the past and has proven fatal.
I think it is awful stuff like this is taking place. This week America has taken way to many blows and we have to do something about it. Delusional people like this should not be on the streets people need to turn them in and get them help. I am very relieved to hear that the post office is doing there job and monitoring the mail carefully because otherwise President Obama’s life could have been in danger. I am very impressed by the police taking control this week to find the criminals and get them off the streets we all owe them a lot because more lives could have been lost if it wasn’t for them.

This article was about the recent proposal to discuss gun control bill, demanding mandatory background checks, that was overturned in the Senate on Wednesday. With 54 votes yes and 46 votes no, and a majority of 60, the bill barely missed the cut. Former Democratic Senator Gabrielle Giffords, who was critically wounded in a mass shooting, tried to convince her old friend Mr. Flake, a Republican, to support the bill, and all he could say was "I'm sorry". President Obama, Senators Manchineel and Toomey, and even relatives of the Newport Connecticut shooting had pushed for months so find a gun control bill that appeases both Democrats and Rebublicans. However, at the last minute, the prestigious senator Charels E. Grassley proposed an alternate bill that most Republicans supported.

It makes me sick that after what happened in Connecticut and Boston, someone could vote no to even DISCUSS the bill that woul have saved lives. Sick. Flake looked his friend in the eye, a friend with permanent brain damage from a bullet wound, a friend trying to save others, and told her no. Giffords could have been saved if this bill had been passed earlier. It is too late to take that tragedy back, but other innocent lives can still be preserved. Why in the name of all that is holy would you turn that down. Those children might still be alive. We might not have hundreds of families still grieving for loved ones killed by psychopaths with semi-automatic assault weapons. President Obama wasn't asking for a ban on all weapons now and forever, he was trying to prevent horrors such as Newtown. Anyone who disagrees with that. . . It's just wrong.

"Texas fertilizer plant blast: Fourteen bodies found"
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-22219735

This past Wednesday, a fire broke out in a fertilizer plant in West, a small Texas town. The resulting explosion caused a seismic event with the power of a small earthquake. More than 200 people were injured and about 50 houses were destroyed, their walls ripped down by the force. Fourteen bodies have been recovered from the plant, and others are still missing. Most of the town of West has been evacuated, including a nursing home located near the plant.
I was saddened to read this story, because it seems that the explosion was a freak incident. It's possible that it was caused by the chemical ammonia, but the explosion is still being investigated. West is a small town, so the explosion has affected a large percent of the residents. The approximately 50 families who have lost their homes will have to rebuild, and it will take a great deal of time and effort.

2 killed, more than 100 hurt in Boston Marathon bombing
    http://news.blogs.cnn.com/2013/04/15/explosions-near-finish-of-boston-marathon/?hpt=hp_t1
On April 15 two explosions occurred near the finish line of the Boston marathon. The explosions killed two people and injured at least 180 others according to officials, and some of them even lost limbs. Some people even had to have amputated limbs, mostly the legs were amputated. The explosions happened around 2:50, two hours after the first runners had finished. It is still unclear who was behind the attacks, but the FBI thinks it was planned out by terrorists. The explosions left many people confused and in panic. People near the disaster reported seeing blood everywhere and people severely injured. Ironically, another explosion occurred later in the day at the JFK Library that was probably related to the other explosion.

I feel bad for all the people who were injured by this destructive explosion. It is a truly horrible that anybody would hurt and kill others. To make matters worse, this explosion occurred at what is supposed to be a great event. I cannot understand how a person could set off a bomb killing and hurting people knowing that they are innocent, I know I couldn’t. The Boston marathon is supposed to be a showcase of the world’s best runners, not a tragic disaster to hurt and kill people. I can’t imagine being about to finish a marathon, which is a great lifetime milestone, only to be blown aside by an explosion. I would guess that a terrorist organization was involved. Who is the person behind the disastrous explosion? What will come out of this terrible tragedy?

    1. The police have just recently caught the second suspect involved in the bombing at the Boston Marathon. He had fled from a shootout where his brother, the other suspect, was killed. All of the people who knew the two brothers said they were great kids and some of their relatives are still in denial of the incident.

I think that it is really important that the suspect for the bombings was caught because it was an event of terrorism that hurt many and could have hurt even more. Now that the have caught the suspect they police must work at finding out why he did it, if it will happen again and how to stop terrorism. CBS This Morning Abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell's murder trial sparks political firestorm

    http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-505263_162-57579551/abortion-doctor-kermit-gosnells-murder-trial-sparks-political-firestorm/

In this article it explains the case of Kermit Gosnell, an abortion provider with the charges of a murder of a woman and eight babies. The federal agents on this case searched his facility to find terrible conditions three years ago. It wasn’t until a ‘botched’ abortion to a woman’s death to have them look into Dr. Gosnell once more. The eight babies that he killed were survivors of his late abortions that were fully alive and normal infants. Gosnell claims that he is innocent, just simply saying the deaths of the babies were not by his doing. While this story is horrifying and cruel, it had another theme to it for the cause abortion rights. This story was not publicized because it draws attention to the need for abortion rights, so that abortion clinics can be routinely checked and health standards. After the story’s releasing, it brought up important points about the rights to abortion.

While I do not agree with some people along the lines of a death penalty, I do believe this wacko of a doctor deserves nothing less than suffering. I do not know his angle with this, but having a shady abortion shack does not give you the right to kill an actual life. I am pro-choice, but something like this makes a bad name for all abortion movements. It also brings up the subject of health standards that go along with abortion ‘clinics’ that have left many women with diseases and illnesses. Saying this, I do not take abortion likely, there are only certain scenarios that make me even consider abortion being okay. But many women choose this path without thinking and if they do I believe we should make sure it is the safest way possible.

Suspect Captured In Hunt For Boston Marathon Bombers

    http://www.forbes.com/sites/davidewalt/2013/04/19/suspect-captured-in-hunt-for-boston-marathon-bombers/

Tonight, ending the race to find the two suspects, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev has been arrested by Boston Police inside of a dry-locked speed boat in Watertown, Massachusetts. Around an hour after the curfew was off they found suspect no. 2. It took them two hours to arrest Dzhokhar, trying to get him out of the boat and capturing him. The man who found him in his boat said that he saw a man covered in blood in his boat and called the police. The police are still questioning why the Tsarnaev brothers attacked on monday.
My main opinion of this article is that it is absolutely terrible. Why would two brothers become terrorists? Now that they have done this they have ruined the lives of many people’s as well as their own. My biggest question, along with most of the people in the United States is why? why did they place bombs at a Boston marathon? Why would they be inclined to become terrorists and kill people?

Gene data show China bird flu mutated "under the radar", By Kate Kelland
    http://news.yahoo.com/gene-data-show-china-bird-flu-mutated-under-151923439.html
Kelland, Kate. "Gene Data Show China Bird Flu Mutated "under the Radar"" Yahoo! News. Yahoo!, 29 Sept. 0000. Web. 19 Apr. 2013.

The H7N9 bird flu has killed 17 people in China; an increase in numbers, due to a recent mutation found in viral genes. A constantly mutating virus, it is not currently transferrable between humans. However, scientists have noticed the ever growing differences between earlier versions of the virus that make it more susceptible to being transferrable between humans. Currently estimated at 87, the victims of the disease reveal a startling fact; the majority had no previous contact with poultry. The success of the virus is partially due to its genes being composed of three other viruses’ genes. Scientists have found similarities between the current outbreak and cases in the past; occurring in the Netherlands in the form of H7N7, and in Italy as the H7N1. The H7N9 strain is currently spreading under the radar, and origins of the new strain are yet to be confirmed.
Disease has plagued humans since the beginning of civilization, and has been a nuisance ever since. I am worried about this new strain of bird flu, with mortality and the lack of treatment and vaccines being major issues for society. I wish for the fast recovery of the ill. From the statistics found in the article, people can assume that the mortality rate is around 19%. At this rate, with no reliable vaccines being distributed, the possibility of it becoming a human epidemic is sure to frighten most. This response was shown during the H1N1 swine flu back in 2009, where worldwide vaccination and treatment has halted its spread. Although viral mutations are commonly found in nature, the occasional destructive virus will concern society. I believe that along with other cases in the past as proof, the current virus strain will be constrained and controlled; although modern methods of transportation may complicate the process.

This article basically is providing somewhat some closure to what happened at the Boston marathon. People were bombed near the finish line, it caused quite a few deaths, and countless injuries. This explains how two suspects were on the run, last night one was killed, and the other was still on the go. The police have found him and finally captured him.
I think the whole incident was horrible enough, hurting so many families, and taking away the lives of innocent civilians. I wonder why this would happen because according to the article, people who knew the suspects never thought of them as being violent. This is a very sad event, and has rocked the entire nation. This is what has been on the news almost nonstop and is what has brought a sense of nationalism i think. Lately, people are more caring and sympathetic from what happened. I just don't understand why this bombing would occur, what motivated them to do what they did?

"We can all rest easy". Earlier this week, two explosions rocked the Boston Marathon. Three people were killed and over one hundred were seriously injured, of these very few are still in critical condition. In the beginning, there were next to no clear facts. The FBI had no suspects and simply had no idea where the attack came from. However, after days of analyzing video evidence the police released the pictures of two suspect on Thursday afternoon. Within hours the suspects had been identified. Brothers Dzhokar Tsarnaev and Tamerlan Tsarnaev were identified as the subjects. In the late hours of Thursday I the early hours of today there was a major shoot out. One MIT police officer was killed, and another was wounded. In the midst of this Dzhokar Tsarnaev was shot and killed while his brother managed to escape. This escape resulted in a manhunt that led to the town of Watertown, which was essentially shut down. After searching for hours, the police finally cornered Tamerlan Tsarnaev. After a brief engagement, Tamerlan emerged in a serious medical condition. He is now in police custody.

I am very glad that both of these suspects were apprehended. Their actions suggested that they were highly volition, and it seemed that if they were allowed to run free it may have been calamitous. This man will surely feel the full force of the law, and for this I am grateful. I extend my condolences to those affected by the Boston bombings.

The father of the suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing described his fugitive son as a smart and accomplished "angel" in an anguished interview in which he claimed they were set up. He lives in Makhachkala, Russia and after a while of discussing the situation he was in and giving information about his sons, he got frustrated and exclaimed things like “My son is killed! I know they were set up! I know it!” The family's origins are in Chechnya, the mostly Muslim Russian republic where separatist rebels fought two full-scale wars with Russian forces since 1994. Both boys were very smart and followed religion.
I can’t imagine how it must feel to hear that your children are suspected of a bombing or a terrorist act and I don’t blame the dad for denying it. I would too because I wouldn’t want to think that I raised a child that committed that big of a crime, let alone two of them. He must feel guilty himself and there is a lot of pressure that goes along with it. The sad thing is there was never anything he could do and there was no way for him to tell that they were capable of that.

Boy, 8, one of two killed in bombings at Boston Marathon; scores wounded

    John Levs

In Massachusetts, Two bombs exploded near the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Witness’ say that it felt like “a huge cannon." I think that this is such a crazy turn of events.

Boston Marathon Bomber caught, town celebrates

This article is about the capture of the second bomber who caused a bomb to go off at the finish line of the Boston Marathon recently this week. It has been reported that there were 3 deaths in total, one of them being an 8-year-old boy, and at least 135 people were injured. The two suspects appeared to be brothers, who moved to the United States legally about 20 years ago from a northern area in Europe called Chechnya. According to the FBI, a foreign government requested information on one of the brothers based on information that he was a radical Islam follower, but no evidence was found against him. The first brother,Tamerlan Tsarnaev was killed in a gunbattle with the police, but the brother Dzhokar was not found until recently, where he was injured but not killed and is in the hospital currently.
I think that the catching of the bomber is wonderful, but the bombing itself was a horrible burden brought onto Americans. So many have suffered from just two people who decided to do such a horrible thing, it just makes me disapointed. I am almost glad that this attack was not from an American because that would just make me disgusted that a person could do such a thing, even though obviously this has happened before in America. My question would be:what motivates them? I know religion could influence the way they make these decisions, but how could they willingly try to harm others and themselves?

In Pakistan, near the border of Iran, there was an earthquake with the magnitude of 7.8. This killed 34 people and injured over 80 more. While the epicenter of this earthquake was around 50 miles north of Saravan, rescue efforts are being held in Mashakel. Even though many shops were damaged, luckily none of the nuclear plants were. With an earthquake of this magnitude aftershocks will last for days or weeks.

It is very sad to hear that thirty-four people died as a result of this earthquake. Also all the shops that had been destroyed will need to be rebuilt. This could put many shop owners out of business until they are rebuilt, but will also take a lot of time and money. I hope that all those people injured will be able to recuperate and that they didn't lose any loved ones. Overall, the earthquake that happened was a devastating event that impacted a lot of people’s lives in Pakistan negatively.

Kepler telescope spies 'most Earth-like' worlds to date

Scientists say these new worlds are the right size and distance from their parent star, so that you might expect to find liquid water on their surface. It is impossible to know for sure. Being 1,200 light-years away, they are beyond detailed inspection by current telescope technology. It is possible for this planet to support life.

All of this makes this a pretty cool planet. Planets 62e and 62f also happen to sit a sufficient distance from their host star that they receive a very tolerable amount of energy. They are neither too hot, nor too cold; a region of space around a star sometimes referred to as the "Goldilocks Zone".

    URL: http://www.cnn.com/2013/04/15/us/boston-marathon-explosions/index.html?hpt=hp_t1
    Date: April 14th, 2013

Just a little bit after the runners crossed the finish line at the Boston Marathon, two explosions rocked the area. The two blasts were said to happen only seconds apart and injured about a half dozen people. While it is still unsure what exactly happened to cause these explosions, police are looking into it. Luckily, no one was killed and only a few were hurt. Paramedics were called to the scene and police were asked to assist in keeping people away for a little bit.

Personally I think that this is a little weird. The timing seems really ironic considering that there were tons of people there just moments before. The police and others are still unsure why this happens but it doesn't seem like a coincidence to me. It might be, but I would be surprised. But considering all of this, I am just glad no one was too hurt or killed.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/20/us/boston-marathon-bombings.html

On Monday, April 15, two bombs exploded near the finish line of the Boston Marathon in Boston, killing 3 and seriously wounding over 140 people. After nearly a week of news clarification and revelation as well as an investigative manhunt, the search for the two instigators has concluded with the capture of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19. Tsarnaev was found hiding in the boat of a Watertown resident, where police had been conducting searches all day. The suspect was eventually retrieved by an FBI hostage team. Tsarnaev is said to be in a serious yet stable condition from the gunfight that killed his brother and fellow suspect, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26.

This violent act shocked me greatly, not only because of how graphic the results were and how insensitive a person would have to be to do such a thing, but also the reaction of the suspects’ friends, family, and classmates. To hear someone who has changed countless lives negatively being described as thoughtful and sweet and as someone who loved their cat seems wrong. Four months ago, shortly after the Newtown, Connecticut shootings, the news was abuzz with information about Adam Lanza: how he was shy and bullied as a child. When thinking about such terrible events, one wants to imagine that there is a way to change so that such tragedies will not happen so often, not that it was seemingly inevitable. This event is a great tragedy for the United States, and I extend my condolences to all of the victims of these explosions.

Many runners who had been training for months for the occasion lost there legs. This is truly and great tragedy that will be remembered for many years. The bombers are two Chechnyan brothers who were legal US citizens. The oldest one died in a police shootout, but the youngest has been captured.
This is truly a great tragedy, and the quicker that these bombers are persecuted, then the quicker this tragedy is fixed. The saddest part about all of this is the fact that all those runners lost their legs. If you have been training all those months, only to lose your legs, then that would be devastating.

There was a series of bomb blasts on Monday, April 15. The attacks occured in six places: Anbar, Baghdad, Kirkuk, Salaheddin Diyala, Babel, and Nasriya. The blasts killed at least 42 people and wounded more than 257 others. Baghadad’s international airport had two of the bombs explode at one of its checkpoints. Most of the attacks were planned by the Al Qaeda in Iraq, which is made up of many Sunni extremists. Many of the bombings in Baghadad were in Shiite areas.

In my opinion, this article was very depressing. So many innocent people are being killed by bombs all over the world. It needs to stop. In my opinion, violence will not solve anything. It will only cause more violence. Why can’t the human race just accept their differences and move on with life? This article reminds me of the recent Boston Marathon bombings. But the sad thing is that so many people know about the Boston Marathon bombings, but so few know about these bombings.

Boston Marathon bombing: Martin Richard's family ripped apart by terror attack

The eight year old Martin Richard was killed in the Boston bombing. His mother, Denise, is getting surgery for the shrapnel that hit her in the head. His sister lost her leg. Martin’s father is a community leader and was at the marathon, but he was not hurt. Supporters arrived at the Richard’s home and placed flowers outside their home. Two others were killed in this bombing, and lots more injured. There was a memorial of more than one thousand people for the family. Many are sad to have lost such an inspiring little boy.

I find this whole attack awful. Who would want to attack innocent people? The fans in the crowd didn't do anything bad. They were there to support friends and family who were running the race. I do not understand why someone would do this. Many were affected by this terrorist act, and I feel sympathy for everyone who was affected. No one should have to go through a bad event like this. It was only last Monday that two explosions occurred near the finish line of the Boston marathon.

I defiantly sympathize with all the people who were injured by this destructive explosion.

I think that it is really important that the suspect for the bombings was caught because it was an event of terrorism that hurt many and could have hurt even more. Now that the have caught the suspect they police must work at finding out why he did it, if it will happen again and how to stop terrorism.
