  1. Current Event Debt Reduction Plan
David Batson P: 2 World History
This article was about Obama’s tax plan which, mostly, was built on eliminating bush-era tax cuts for the wealthy announced during a congress session. The presidents’ plan would impact the wealthy the most, but would also take funding away from Medicare and troops out of Afghanistan and Iraq. Republicans took a shot at the president’s plan refusing to give up their position that tax increases will not end this deficit. This is all part of a plan that will take ten years but will earn over $3 trillion dollars to pay off the nation’s debts. Along with the other bout of cuts these two packages will earn $4 trillion dollars towards the nation’s debt which is definitely a start. The main portion of the president’s plan will include limit deductions for wealthy taxpayers, corporate loopholes and subsidies for oil and gas companies. I think that this plan will help cut down our nation’s debt and that it should go into effect immediately. There will be raised prices on gas and oil but that will help the nation’s debt situation so I think most people will support it. I agree with the president that we need to cut some things but also increase revenue to the government to eliminate the burden of our debts. For years it hasn’t been a fair tax distribution with the wealthy paying as much tax as some people in the middle class and some middle class people paying more than wealthy people. Warren Buffet was quoted saying that he felt guilty paying less taxes than his secretary. That should not happen in a just society. His secretary should be paying less taxes than him. Though I am concerned that company earnings will go down because the wealthy are being taxed more. Overall I do believe that this plan is a good thing though.

Obama supports the idea of mail delivery going from 6 days in the week to 5 days. This is said to be necessary to help lower the depths of postal offices. On average the postal service loses 8.5 billion a year. The postal office already had to cut more than 100000 workers, and close many offices. They see this option as the best way to fix there problem with money. If this would go through, they would want to not deliver the post any more on saturdays.

Although it is needed for the postal offices to make budget cuts, I don't think it is the best idea to eliminate a day of post delivery. If they eliminate saturday delivery, there would not come any mail in the weekend, and this will delay the mail of important messages. I send happy birthday letters often, and I like it when the receiver can receive it on their birthday. But now if there birthday is on a saturday or sunday they won't get it. If we want a good civilization we want to be able to get our messages as fast as possible. I question that this is the right solution, many people don't write letters anymore and this will discourage the ones who do. They better can find a different solution in my opinion.

President Barack Obama said Monday, the U.S. Postal Service should be allowed to reduce mail delivery to five days a week to help cut their massive losses. Obama endorsed the idea of dropping one day of mail delivery; it is expected to be Saturday; and urged other changes in postal orders. Obama has agreed that $7 billion the post office has overpaid into the federal retirement system should be refunded to the agency. This comes to payments for advance funding of retiree medical benefits be restructured, and said the post office should be allowed to sell non-postal products and raise postage rates.

I personally don't mind what the president does with the mail. Now that we have technology, I am able to send emails to everyone all over the world. If I have to send something by mail, I would send it as early as possible. Like Obama said before he got elected " If there is a problem, there is always a solution." If he was able to think of that "powerful" phrase, than i think that he should be able to come up with a "powerful" solution.

'Mass casualties' reported after plane crashes at Nevada air show
    CNN wire staff
    http://www.cnn.com/2011/US/09/16/nevada.plane.crash/index.html
    September 16, 2011

On Friday, September 16 a stunt plane in a Reno, Nevada air show/race crash landed into a crowd of spectators. Ten people died from this horrible accident and fifty four people were sent to the hospital. At least three of those hospitalized are in critical conditions. Jimmy Leeward, the pilot of the P-51 Mustang, was a real-estate developer, was also likely to have died from the crash. Some officials saw pictures just when the nose dive occurred and stated that the pilot might have been unconscious at the wheel of the plane. The plane was also said to be falling apart, the tail of the plane was supposedly tearing off while the plane was in flight. A few minor adjustments were made to the plane at the last minute, which might have caused the crash as well.

I saw the plane crash on the news in the morning and was shocked by the number of people who suffered. Personally I think the pilot was too old to be flying the plane in the first place. Second, I think that further inspection should have been done to ensure the safety of the pilot and the spectators. Why didn't the crew of the Reno Air Race disapprove the plane? The people that ran the Air Race should be held responsible for all of the people that have been affected by the crash.

My article is about windows 8. Windows 8 is the Microsoft program that is faster and can do more things. The overall speed is better than windows 7 and it can hold more memory and processing power. The applications in windows 8 load faster and better benefits. Windows 8 has better graphics for games and more memory for games that take up a lot of space.
I think this will help a lot of people that need a lot of memory to hold things. It’s faster so you can get your work done quicker and you can download more stuff if you need to. If you like to play pc games then you can download more games with better graphics.

Today I read about the plane crashes in Reno, Nevada on http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2011/09/16/national/main20107634.shtml by the CBS news. It happened on September 16, 2011 during an airplane race. jimmy leeward, a pilot flying a plane from WWII, flew over 250 planes and drove planes in a lot of movies, such as “Amelia” and “Cloud Dancer”. He ran out of control and crashed into the grand stands, where everyone else was. Jimmy and two others died. 70 people were injured and were taken to the hospital. This event is so important right now because planes don’t crash into people everyday and it affected the people that were at the airplane race and their families.

This event is very important in American history because it was such a disaster. Also Jimmy Leeward was a very famous pilot. I don’t know what it is like knowing someone that has died in a disaster like this, but I do feel really sorry for them. There were lots of patients at the hospital in Reno that day. This reminds me of 9/11 because the air plane crash in Nevada affected a lot of people and tons of people died and lots of buildings were destroyed in 9/11.

Obama offers 3.6 trillion dollar deficit plan that would raise taxes
I read an article on Obamas new deficit plan. It included the all-controversial tax the rich gambit. Nothing we haven’t seen before, being one of the hot topics in the 2012 race for presidency. Obama vows to always veto a plan that relies solely on cuts. He says “Americans must pay their fair share in taxes”. Some republicans call this class warfare but really he’s just playing to the largest portion of the voter body, the middle class.
I think that we need to get some plan out there. We can bicker all we want, but just taxing people will not solve things. I am no tax genius but let us say that the average income tax of a millionaire is 5%. That would make his tax payment $50,000(sure there a deductibles as well as personal exemption). And lets make the average wage person $40,000(that’s the 2009 average income), if they have a tax of even 20 % they pay $8,000 (that’s $42,000 less). I’m not saying it’s not exactly fair; it’s the fact that we don’t need to raise taxes on anyone, taxes will have little effect on the $13000000000 debt.

Hot weather helps force blackouts in South Korea/CNN’s Brad Lendon

    http://news.blogs.cnn.com/2011/09/15/hot-weather-helps-force-blackouts-in-south-korea/?iref=allsearch

South Korea’s temperature is abnormally 10 degrees hotter than usual, and the temperatures are expected to continue through Saturday. Most South Koreans were stuck in elevators and there was no cell phone service which in returns affected hundreds of South Koreans. Also all of the traffic lights and other electric objects were all dead, not in service, or not working. The South Korean Ministry of Knowledge Economy had set a high demand for air conditioning during the heat wave. What do you think about this occurrence?

My opinion on this article is that we (as in the world and its people) should watch global warming more closely, because global warming is probably why South Korea had a heat wave. Korea usually has a cold environment, so I think that the hot weather will be quite hard for some Koreans to make the change to and I think it would be kind of shocking for some of the Koreans for the hot weather.

    Date: September 9
    URL: http://www.infoplease.com/news/2011/current-events/science-disasters_sept.html

On September 9th, Wildfires consume tens of thousands of acres in severe drought areas of Texas. Two people have been killed by the wildfire. The biggest fire was in Bastrop County, east of Austin. 500 homes have been destroyed, 25,000 acres have burned and 5,000 people have been evacuated. The wildfires are fueled by high winds and the state's drought, which is the worst ever on record.
This article made me realize that not all fires are caused by men, but also by nature. We cannot control the wind fronts or the weather. We can affect it (Global Warming) and prepare for it, but we never know exactly when and where it will hit. In my opinion, fire seems to play a role in several key events in history, such as the 9/11 attacks. It is very hazardous but it’s also critical to our survival. Reading this, I remember our Civilization projects; did a few civilizations become instinct because of natural disasters? Or were most of them wiped out by rival tribes? I feel sorry for the people who died and the acres of land that were eaten by the fire. In the future, I hope we will be more prepared for future wildfires.

Shweyga Mulla worked as a nanny for Hannibal Gadhafi and his wife, taking care of their two children. About 3 months ago, Shweyga was in the home taking care of the children, and Aline Gadhafi poured boiling water on her head when she refused to hurt the child that was crying. She has been under a lot of treatment since then. Shweyga was flown out of Libya to receive more treatment in Malta. Donors gave her more than $38,000 to help her receive the best treatment. Shweyga’s plan after treatment is to move back to Libya to see her family and put the past behind her and live a better life.

I think she is amazing for being such a good person about what happened. She absolutely did not deserve what she went through, and she’s come very far. Shweyga has so much courage and I’m glad she’s okay. It’s relieving that she’s going to be okay, and I really like how many people are supporting her throughout the world. The Maltese government even offered her more treatment, and free education if she wanted. I hope that after her treatment she will be much happier and she is reunites with her family.

Burundi bar attack leaves many dead at Gatumba

Officials at Bujubura states that at least 36 people had been killed after an open fire at a crowded bar near the Burundi capital in Africa. The local hospital had reported that they were unable to cope with the wounded people. They are lacking blood, equipment and medicine to treated the wounded. The gunmen were unidentified but survivors said that they were wearing military uniforms. One of the survivors of the open fire told BBC news that they had heard someone say “kill them all” and started to open fire right after. Since 2009, the last rebel group in Burundi had been caught but attacks still occur and are continuing to occur. On recent attacks, the government had blamed them on bandits but correspondents have said that there might be new rebel groups forming.

I think that this article was pretty interesting because it reminds me of Al-Qaeda. Even though this was just a random gun attack, it harmed and wounded many people. Just like Al-Qaeda, these men are part of rebel groups that causes many destruction and death of many victims that should still be alive. The Article states that over 300,000 people have been killed in Burundi people because of these rebels. The conflict of these rebels fighting have officially ended in 2005 with a peace deal but they still do not keep the peace which makes me wonder what would happen to us, the United States, even though Osama Bin laden had died. Will there be more attacks on the U.S and will Al-Qaeda live on with a new leader?

Foo Fighters Protest Westboro Baptist Church by Eric Marrapodi
    http://bit.ly/ovtsyH

The Westboro Baptist Church is Kansas-based and was started by Fred Phelps in 1955 and is best known for protesting soldiers' funerals, with protesters carrying their controversial signs. They have been known to hold up brightly colored signs that read, "God Hates Fags," and "Thank God for Dead Soldiers." Recently, the Foo Fighters, a rock and roll group, played an impromptu show for a group of protesters from Westboro Baptist Church who had come to protest outside the band's show Friday night in Kansas City, Missouri. The band members jumped onto a flatbed truck, parked across the street from the protest, and sang "Hot Buns”. In a news release the church said it would protest the Foo Fighters concert because "The entertainment industry is a microcosm of the people of this doomed nation: hard-hearted, Hell-bound, and hedonistic to the max. Every person with a platform should be using it to encourage obedience to God; instead, you teach all things contrary to Him: fornication, adultery, idols, fags."

I personally extremely despise the Westboro Baptist Church. Their reasons for their protests are incredibly irrational and their morals are just foolish. Who, in their right mind, would celebrate the death of someone who has served the country and died from it? Only the Westboro Baptist Church would. I think that the Foo Fighters mocking the church is hilarious and they have all the right to do it. Honestly, though, I’m surprised anyone even believes in and follows all this nonsense. The only question I have is: Were the people that invented the Westboro Baptist Church able to think straight and properly?

7 victims killed in crash at Nevada air race identified (http://www.cnn.com/2011/09/19/us/nevada-plane-crash/index.html?hpt=us_c2)

On Friday, an air show in Reno, Nevada ended horribly wrong when a pilot lost control of his plane and sent it plunging into the crowd. Ten people died from the crash, and seven have been identified so far including the 74-year-old pilot Jimmy Leeward. Nearly 70 people were injured from the crash landing and were sent to the hospital. Investigators announced Sunday that the small WII plane was equipped with a video recording device. They hope this will assist them in determining what exactly happened. As of now, it is unclear why the aircraft crashed.

I think it’s terrible that the plane crashed right into the crowd of spectators and that so many people were killed and injured. I find it strange that no one seems to know why the plane crashed. Authorities said the pilot didn’t even send a mayday call before the plane crashed. That leads me to believe he may have been unconscious during the last couple seconds of flight time. To avoid this next time, pilots should have certain health requirements to full-fill. 74 is a little old to be flying a plane.

My article, which was written on September 21st is about the two American hikers who released from Iranian custody. The two Americans, Shane Bauer and Josh Fattal were originally jailed by the Iranians because they were suspected by them to be spies. The two Americans had spent two years and jail and could have spent up to another six in prison had they not been released on bail. The two men will be returning to the United States very soon.

I think that this is a very good thing. I mean two wrongly accused U.S. citizens have made it back to America after a certainly very, very traumatizing two years locked up in a foreign prison. Yet another good thing about this is that we got the hikers out as early as we did, they could have spent up to another six years in that Iranian prison. I don't really have any connection with being locked up but I can certainly sympathize with the families of the wrongly accused hikers

A call to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration to report that the temperature in the warehouse had reached 102 degrees. Also, it was said that over 15 workers collapsed. during the hotter parts of the summer, paramedics were stationed outside the warehouse because so many people were becoming sick as a result of the heat. An emergency room doctor even reported seeing so many workers from amazon that he called the OHSA and reported an unsafe environment.
I think that it is really wrong that workers in the United States are being treated like this. It is one thing for our government to be going overseas and stopping injustice in other countries, but first we need to take care of ourselves. While I respect that companies like Amazon need to skim every penny they can get, is it too much for them to make sure that their workers are safe at the very least?

"Carborro restricts dog tethering." By: Tammy Grubb
September 21st 2011. The Chapel Hill News
    http://www.chapelhillnews.com/2011/09/21/66909/carrboro-restricts-dog-tethering.html

It has been recently announced that Carrboro is in the making of an ordinance stating restrictions to dog tethering. The concern of the health and ability to defend themselves for these animals has brought about the conclusion that dogs many only be chained for up to seven days for specific reasons, if the owner is in view, under the conditions of a found dog and a few others. Requirements for chains that are allowed include a length of ten feet, two swivels and a weight less than ten percent of the animal’s body weight. This law will take a few months to make official. Other communities around the Carrboro area, including Chapel Hill have restrictions too.
I believe this is a smart idea, and an important act to take. I’ve seen dogs chained while riding through town, and it isn’t fair or good for them. They deserve freedom, and some people leave them chained for entirely too long. The article stated that those who broke this ordinance would be charged. My questions are how much, and what other actions would be taken for extreme measures?

On the tenth anniversary of 9/11 everyone was a little bit paranoid and Shoshana Hebshi experienced that first hand. She was riding on a plane to Detroit from Denver just minding her own business. When the plane landed in a secluded part of the airport in Detroit they saw security cars and people everywhere. She was wondering what was happening when three men came on the plane with giant guns and told her and her seat mates to get up; as they did they were handcuffed and were take into the airport to be strip searched. Shoshana had been doing nothing wrong and had not gotten up once but was none she less taken to be investigated by the FBI. After the whole ordeal she realized it must have been because she is half Arab and dark skinned. Her seatmates were Indian and dark skinned also. This shows how the USA has not recovered from 9/11 and many people are still suspicious of Middle East looking people.
I think it’s unfair that people still suspect totally innocent people. They have done nothing wrong. The only reason people are suspicious of them is because the people who attacked our country looked like them. It’s almost like people being suspicious of me because Hitler was white also. Shoshana described all she had been doing on the plane as sleeping, reading, and playing a game on her phone. Security had said they were suspicious of her behavior on the plane. The odd thing is that they never told her what she was doing that was so suspicious. Though I do think security should be aware of anything suspicious, I hope this racism won’t hurt anybody or ruin threw life in anyway if they were innocent.

A suicide bomber waited days to assassinate former Afghan president Burhanuddin Rabbani. The man waited for days to speak with the former president in a guest house, saying that he was a member of the Taliban wanting to reconcile with the Afghan government. When the two went to shake hands, however, the bomber detonated a bomb hidden in his turban. This attacked raised serious concerns about security in Afghanistan after the departure of the US armed forces. The attacked also dashed hopes of actually reconciling with the Taliban.

This is not a good sign. The US troops are almost starting to pull out, and this happens. This raises some major doubts about Afghanistan and it's security. However, it would be difficult to stop incidents like this. It is often difficult to tell terrorists apart from civilians. Let us hope that these incidents will be diminished, and that the war actually had a positive effect.

Jamey Rodemeyer Suicide: Police Consider Criminal Bullying Charges, by Susan Donaldson James
    ABC news/September 22, 2011
    http://abcnews.go.com/Health/jamey-rodemeyer-suicide-ny-police-open-criminal-investigation/story?id=14580832

This article is about police opening a criminal investigation for the suicide death of a 14 year old boy from Buffalo, NY. His name was Jamey Rodemeyer, and the reason the police are opening a criminal investigation is because he was constantly bullied online which led to his suicide. Students had been posting hate comments with gay slurs on his Formspring, which is a website that allows anonymous posts. Many friends reported the bullying to guidance counselors. Jamey had sent out many signals that he was struggling with the bullying, even though he made a video on the It Gets Better project to encourage others to fight off bullies. Rodemeyer was found dead outside his home Sunday morning, but police have not released details of his death. He had just entered his freshman year in high school, but the bullying had begun while he was in middle school according to his parents. He left a farewell note before taking his own life on Sunday.
I think this is really a sad story, because nobody should take their own life because of how other people bully them. This happens almost everywhere in the world and I think that something should be done about it. I feel that parents should really stress to their kids not to let the bullies get into their heads and they should ignore them. It's when the bully gets into the person's head that they begin to doubt themselves and become depressed. My main question is why bullies choose to pick others.

    http://www.cnn.com/2011/09/20/tech/mobile/california-phone-search-law/index.html

California State legislature passed a bill that bans cellphone searches without a warrant. This bill won't take effect unless the governor signs it by October 9th of this year. Essentially what this bill states is that a police officer needs a warrant to search "any portable device that is capable of creating, receiving, accessing, or storing electronic data or communications." What this means is that police would need to go through the long, drawn out process of contacting a judge, and convincing him/her that there is probable cause to search the suspect's phone, tablet, laptop, and/or other electronics. What this would mean for arresting officers is that they would have to confiscate the suspect's phone, than wait a few hours before searching it for information that might lead to that person's conviction or something else. This bill puts even more restraints on the already difficult jobs of our police force.

I strongly disapprove of this bill, as it is unnecessary. If you are arrested, officers should be allowed to look at your phone immediately - even if only to see if you were talking/texting with an accomplice who might be in the area. I don't know how this would ever work in big cities, especially when arrests are terrorism-related. The time it takes to get a warrant could easily be the difference between finding five more suspects or having a building blow up, resulting in hundreds of lives lost. I feel as if this bill will be pointless anyways, as police officers would most likely just take your phone behind-closed-doors, look at it, then get a warrant with a probable cause that relates to what they've found on the phone already. Why would they even consider this bill? If you're arrested, YOU HAVE NO NEED FOR YOUR PHONE!!! What does it matter to you anyways unless there's incriminating evidence against you or someone else - in which case, it's good for the general population and the police are doing their jobs well!

  24. I read about mounting tensions between the United States and Pakistan. Pakistan's intelligence service, the ISI, is widely known to sponsor terrorism in Pakistan and abroad, much like Iran's Revolutionary Guards, or Pasdaran, were known to do in the 70s-90s. The Pakistani government has also claimed that they didn't know of Osama bin Laden's presence in Pakistan, despite the fact that he was living in a mansion a stone's throw away from a Pakistani army base. In addition, they have claimed that the United States violated Pakistan's sovereignty by conducting the raid that killed bin Laden, and that no American serviceperson would set foot in Pakistan.

Recently two American hikers who inadvertently crossed the border of Iran and Iraq were recently freed from an Iranian prison. It is not clear if they had not been paying attention to the border, or that the border was not clearly marked. They were accused of spying and were held for a bail of $500,000 each. They had been imprisoned for over 2 years. Their release was arranged by the Sultan Quaboos of Oman. This is a significant step to cooperation with countries in the Middle East.

This affects me because I enjoy hiking and hope to hike abroad at some time in the future. I think if diplomacy can be achieved in most other countries a whole world of opportunities open up for not just hikers, but the general population. I think people should have opportunities to see the world. I think travel is a way to eliminate hatred from the world because it immerses people into other cultures.

    http://www.dailytarheel.com/index.php/article/2011/09/man_arrested_in_connection_with_glen_lennox_peeping

This article was about a man who was charged of peeping in the Glen Lennox area. Aleman-Hernandez was charged on four counts of secret peeping and one count of attempted breaking and entering. The past few months, the residents of Glen Lennox have reported seeing a man look into their windows and hearing scratches on their doors. Police monitored the area more closely and arrested the suspect. This is not the first time a peeping tom has been reported in the area, but it’s not a growing problem in Chapel Hill.

I think that this situation is a little scary and creepy. He specifically watches women, so that can make some women uncomfortable. It feels as if you can’t be free in your home, as peeping in on someone is an invasion of privacy. I personally think that people who peep should receive harsh punishments and learn from the consequences of their actions.

    Eyewitness testimony often lies

Summary: Troy Davis was executed today after 22 years in trial. He was convicted of gunning down a police officer. Supposedly he was stealing a VCR when it happened and in pursuit shot down the police officer. In this article there is one person who saw the man running away with the VCR. The man told the police about what he saw and was later question about the thing he saw and asked to indentify from pictures the man he thought it was.

Opinion: my opinion on this is he shouldn’t have been executed, at least not that quickly. The government needs to have enough proof to make such a life changing decision. I think that the death penalty should be no more. Especially if someone is blamed for something that they didn’t necessarily do.

The Iranian government released two American citizens from prison recently. They were caught a few years ago hiking along Iran's border with Iraq with one other American and the three of them were arrested by border patrol and sent to a prison in Tehran. One of the hikers was released about a year ago, but the two others have remained there until recently. The Iranian government has let them return home as a humanitarian gesture. They were accused of espionage and were released on a $500,000 bail. This event is significant since Iran has been less than kindly toward Americans in the passed, and by releasing these prisoners they were showing a certain amount of compassion.

It is good that the prisoners have been released since—at least as they tell it—they were wrongfully accused of espionage. I am not sure, however, of the validity of their claims. Three civilians just decided to go hiking in treacherous mountains in territory that typically isn't friendly to Americans? Also, how did they “accidentally cross the unmarked border?” A country like Iran wouldn't leave their borders unmarked—or was it that they just accidentally climbed a barbed wire fence. I hate to shout “conspiracy” but isn't that what it looks like?

Only 55 percent of young adults in the united states are employed according to this article. This is the lowest percent of employed young people since World War II, states the census data. The country is currently in a large job crisis in which millions of people are without jobs. Young people are greatly hurt by this because as they are just entering the job industry, there are not very many available slots for them. Since 2000 the percentage of employed young people has dropped about 15 percent, which is a lot when you look at it in terms of millions of people. Economists say that if this continues it is making the USA like Europe in terms of unemployment where people are starting to live with their parents even when they are in their 30's because many children are postponing adulthood and the responsibilities that it holds.

I think that we need to start taking up adulthood more quickly because I believe that getting a job and living a good life is very important. I think that because of the current economy, children need to start working harder in their schools so that they can compete for jobs when they grow older. I also think that the government needs to put forth more effort into creating more jobs so there will be less unemployment. I am very concerned that if this continues the high status of this country might not hold on for so long.

The title of the article I read is Obama endorses ending one day of mail delivery. It is written by Randolph E. Schmid. It is about how Obama is considering not having mail delivered on Saturdays. He hopes that it will help the Postal Service cut the massive losses that it is currently experiencing. They have already lost a lot of money and have needed to lay off many employees. This is largely caused by the fact that many people are now sending things through the internet that they would otherwise send through the post. There are some people who agree with Obama, but some people do not. Another idea that was purposed was shutting down sites in more rural areas that don’t use the Postal Services very much.
I believe that the Postal Service has to make budget cuts, but I don’t think they should stop Saturday mail. There are a lot of people who still rely on the Postal Services to send mail things. There might be an important letter in the mail that needs to be delivered as soon as possible but if there is no mail on Saturdays, and then it might have to take an extra day to get to its destination. Also, it would discourage people from writing letters, and that would cause the Postal Services to lose even more money. I like it when people I send birthday cards to get the card either on or right before their birthday, but if their birthday is on a Saturday or Sunday, then they won’t receive it on time. I think a better solution can be found.

This article is talking about the various changes of Facebook. It’s stating that many people say that the “new” Facebook is much worse then the original look, and that they should change it. The Facebook changed its newsfeed, meaning what people see on Facebook is much different from the original one. Also, it added a timeline to the right sidebar, having every single newsfeed get posted on it, so you can keep up to date. The developers of Facebook say that they should wait a while, and see if the users incline or decline. The owner says that the users of Facebook will love it in a few days. This article is important because about everyone has a Facebook, and they use it often, more then 3 times a day.
In my opinion, I agree with this article. At first I thought it was a bad decision because no one liked it. The thing is that Facebook and trying to change and improve with so many people having one. All they’re doing is pleasing their users. I’ve heard hundreds of my friends say that the new Facebook is horrible, but I believe later on in the week they will change their opinion. This can be related to the world history topic because if we are looking at a civilization, all it’s doing is trying to improve and have the civilization prosper. It’s trying to have more people join their way of life.

They all denied the accusation but were still sentenced to eight years in prison, but the woman was released after only 100 days and the two men were just released recently. The woman, Roxana Saberi tells about what it was like in prison there.

I think that is was wrong that they held them in Iran for even that long because they were not actually spies and they had no evidence against them. I think that it was nice how the guard was nice to Roxana and that she was released earlier than was expected

He also has some really advanced technology he uses to gather information on his patients. He has been working on improving helmets more and more. “Right now there are no concussion proof helmets and there won’t be for years.” My dad said. So about six or so months ago, a 42 year old paramedic from Santa Cruz, California, was beaten (unprovoked) after a Giants – Dodgers baseball game. He –being a Giants fan- was severely beaten by two Dodgers fans, bad enough to send him into a coma. Recently he has begun to speak again. A therapist asked him simple questions about himself like his full name, his children’s names, and other simple questions of that sort in which he was able to respond to accurately. The two men who policed believed were responsible of the attack pleases not guilty last month to charges of felony.

This article has surprised me very much. When I first read about the man being beaten a few months ago, I was shocked to say the least. What nutcase would seriously beat someone up because of sports? I mean personally I get angry sometimes when Duke beats UNC which is very rare, but I wouldn’t be angry enough to beat a random Duke fan up bad enough to send them in a coma and leave them in intensive care for the next six months and counting. This event isn’t really considered something “world changing” like other current events, but I chose this one because I remember doing a current event in 8th grade about when this man was first beaten. It’s amazing to follow stories and see their outcomes over time.

“French court imposes first 'burqa ban' fines” / MSNBC.com News Services
    MSNBC, 9/22/2011
    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/44626717/ns/world_news-europe/

This article is about the recent law banning women from wearing burqas in France. Recently, two Muslim women were convicted and fined by a French court for wearing full-face veils in public—the first fine that has taken place since the law was enacted. The decision comes with a lot of controversy, with France’s President Nicolas Sarkozy saying it protects women and their equality while its opponents argue that it limits Muslims’ rights to express their religious beliefs. One of the women who were fined, Hind Ahmas, says that she will appeal to bring her argument before the European Court. Another woman who wears an Islamic face veil, Kenza Drider, recently announced her plans to run for President and has said that the law is a fundamental rights violation.

Amid all the chaos about this law, I have to say that I can see the pros and cons of each side of the argument. On the one hand, I think that people should be able to express their religious beliefs as long as they don’t harm others, which the burqa doesn’t. On the other hand, the wearing of a burqa or other face veil could be seen as a symbol of oppression against women, since veiling one’s face can also mean veiling one’s identity. Since I don’t live in France and I am not Muslim, I have somewhat limited knowledge of the full reasoning behind each side and the cultural ideas being debated. However, my opinion on this is that since some people view the wearing of a burqa as a fundamental part of their religion and since personally choosing to wear a burqa does not harm anyone else, the French law banning burqas is unnecessary. I also think that since such a small minority of Muslim women living in France choose to wear face veils, the fact that they wear them is especially unlikely to affect others and therefore should be protected by law.

Could Troy Davis Execution lead to repeal of the death penalty?
    http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/nationnow/2011/09/troy-davis-execution-repeal-death-penalty.html

Troy Davis was executed Wednesday night, because of a 1989 accusation of murdering a police officer that was off duty in Savannah, Georgia. The murder was often speculated and no one was really sure if he was innocent or guilty. In the moments before his death, he said “I am innocent”. People all over the world were protesting. People were protesting in front of the White House, Supreme Court, and the prison. Famous figures like Former President Jimmy Carter and the Pope were speaking out about how this is unjust. They believe it is unjust because there is so much speculation on whether Troy Davis deserved the death penalty or if he even actually committed the crime. This current event is significant because it is a major event that was being speculated currently.
I think that they should not have sentenced Troy Davis to the death penalty. I believe there was not enough evidence and too much doubt for him to be accused. I think they should’ve at least postponed the execution until they had the facts straight. A fact that is relevant to my opinion is that a few of the witnesses said that they just said what the police wanted to hear, and they didn’t actually know what was going on because they were scared. That is a main reason in my opinion that he shouldn’t have been executed because there should have been more evidence or more investigating. A question I have is why the people that believe it was right to execute him believe that.

The article I read was about a lady, Gina Keatley, who moves to New York to attend culinary school. When first moving in she notices that many of her neighbors have missing arms or legs. She finds out that this is caused by complications from diabetes. Diabetes can reduce blood flow, and cause nerve damage, sometimes causing amputation. In the area that Keatley lives in has the highest diabetes rate in Manhattan and one in three of the adult residents are overweight or obese. The poor people living there cannot afford the pricier vegetables and fruits, so they settle for the cheaper greasy fast food. Keatley was very disappointed by this news, so she decided to start Nourishing NYC. This is a nonprofit organization giving fresh food and nutritional advice to people all across Bronx and Harlem. Not only does this organization give farm fresh food to people, but also twice a week they give nutrition lessons to people and during the summer, they have cooking classes for children to teach them the importance of nutrition.

I think what Gina Keatley is doing, is very good. She is helping other people become aware of what they are eating and by doing this she is reducing diabetes and obesity. It says in the article that some people were so clueless about what they were eating, that they thought if you soaked rice in water it was no longer a carbohydrate. Also the children’s cooking class is very good, because if you start eating healthy at a young age, then it will carry on for your whole life. Another thing good about her, is that she is not asking for anything in return, so she is genuinely doing it for the good of the people.

On a late Wednesday night, two hikers were finally freed from an Iranian Prison. American hikers Josh Fattal and Shane Bauer were imprisoned for 2 years over accusations of spying for the USA. Another hiker, Sara Shourd, was also imprisoned with them, but was released last year on medical grounds. They were bailed out by the Omani government. The bails were $500,000 each. The hikers are just relieved to finally be out of prison and rejoice with their loved ones. They lost two years that they will never be able to get back.

I believe that the Iranian government had no rights to arrest these hikers. They were accused of something they never did. There was absolutely no evidence or justification on why they were imprisoned. Originally, their sentence was for eight years. However, thanks to the Omani government they were freed after two. I personally feel for those hikers who were accused of just hiking. They were normal people with normal lives, who caused no harm. They lost valuable time that money will never be able to fix. I hope that those hikers can live normal lives from today-forward.

How did the Iranian government imprison them?
    Where was their evidence?

Troy Davis was killed on Wednesday night in Georgia. He was sentenced a death penalty. Troy Davis was falsely charged with capital murder. One witness who testified at Monday's parole board hearing said she once heard another man who was at the scene of the murder say that he fired the fatal shots. He was the first person to report Troy Davis to the police. Besides that man, one of Monday's witnesses was a juror from a previous case had voted to sentence Davis to death but now says she has doubts about it now. There was a little bit of evidence that Troy was there, but his name was the only one brought up so it was assumed he was the murder. Troy is now in a better place and his last words were “those about to take my life, may God have mercy on your souls, may God bless your souls.”

From my standpoint I believe this man didn't deserve to die because he was an innocent man. He didn't take anyone's life so he didn't deserve to get his taken. I also believe they should have sunk farther down into the case before accusing someone for this crime. I really feel bad too that this innocent man lost his life. I couldn't imagine if my father or brother or uncle was killed for something he didn't do. I cant imagine how his family feels. This was heart breaking for me to read. I just can figure out why they will execute someone that was innocent, and after so long how did they not even execute a guilty man.

If you ask me I really don't think that this idea will kick off like Zuckerberg hopes it will. It seems like it only focuses on a certain group o Facebook users. I feel like it mainly favors the older members of Facebook who have lived long lives and have a story to tell, versus the teenager and young adult portion of social network who are still living their lives. But maybe I don't understand this because I'm too young. I could see how it would favor a person like my mother who has lived a very successful career in the military. Spike in US Young Health Coverage
BBC World News, 22 September 2011
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-15023690

In the last year, nearly one million young adults have acquired health insurance. This is due to Obama's health care plan, which, among other things, puts increases taxes on the rich and stops insurance companies from denying coverage to people with pre-existing conditions. Although many Republicans have been against the new health care, these numbers would suggest that the plan is working. This is probably because the new plan allows people under 26 to be covered by their parents' health care, instead of having to get their own. This is important because it lets kids find their own way in the world and settle down with a job before they have to worry about getting health care, which will minimize the time they spend without health care.

My mother spent a few years after college without a health care plan. Any time she was between jobs, she wasn't supplied with health care. Although nothing bad happened to her and she didn't need the health insurance, I shudder to think what she would have gone through if she had contracted a disease or needed an operation at that time. I am thankful this didn't happen to her, but it has happened to many like her - responsible, tax-paying, young citizens who have done nothing to deserve a lack of health coverage. These new numbers of young adults who have health care are fantastic, because the more people who have health care, the more functional the health care system will be. Now that people have some time after college to get themselves together and get their own health care before they're expelled from their parents' plans, things are just getting better and better.

Last week twitter started to sell ads to political campaigners. This will help boost the campaigns of candidates from all parties. Other websites, such as Facebook and YouTube, already target viewers, but this is new. Many politicians got Twitter accounts just to get more publicity through these ads. Now it is much easier for people to support their candidates and beliefs.
I think that this is good for some, but bad for others. Some people will be able to better connect with their politicians and find out about more of their beliefs. Others will be spammed with ads and will not like this at all. So I think that this is generally bad for most people who want their own choice, not being pestered with ads all the time. Solyndra employees: Company suffered from mismanagement, heavy spending

By Carol D. Leonnig and Joe Stephens, Published: September 21

    1. Solyndra was a solar panel company that got a 535,000,000 dollar loan from the government to start up their company, and sell cheap solar panels. They started up and kept telling the government that the were doing OK, and kept getting money. They were increasing every year, but were overspending and recently filed for bankruptcy. They had already had leased space down the road, and some of the workers weren’t sure that the needed another plant to go up. Solyndra was being a little careless with there money and now they have to go to court to get things sorted out.

    2. My opinion is that this is mostly Solandras fault, but why did the government not look carefully after such a huge loan. The loan was half a billion dollars and the government didn’t seem to restrict the money use and over expenditures. Usually the federal government has to look very closely at a company applying for such a huge loan, and they did not do that for this case and it resulted in a huge amount of money lost. Some concerns would be if this happens again and again it will take the economy even lower and waste tax dollars.

World Shocked By U.S. Execution of Troy Davis by Peter Wilkinson
    CNN.com, 9/22/11
    http://www.cnn.com/2011/09/22/world/davis-world-reaction/

Last night, Troy Davis was executed by lethal injection because he had been convicted of killing a police officer in Georgia in 1989. There remains some question as to whether the charges against him were true. Many of the witnesses that had originally identified him as the man who killed the police officer recanted their testimony. Before Davis died he said that he was innocent. Many people are angry about his death such as the Pope and Jimmy Carter. They believe that Davis should have never been put to death. Sentencing convicted criminals to the death penalty is wrong because the moral aspect of you could be killing an innocent human being. It is ironic that the system can kill a innocent so how does that make them any different than an actual murderer. I do not believe in the death penalty. Do you believe that the death penalty is a justified punishment?

Troy Davis put to death in Georgia

By: David Mattingly, Vivian Kuo, Bill Mears, Gustavo Valdes and John Murgatroyd contributed to this report.

Troy Anthony Davis was put to death by a lethal injection last night at 11:08 pm in Georgia. After having had three other postponed executions—as well as a delayed one last night—the unjust system prevailed. Davis had been charged with the murder of Mark MacPhail, a police officer in Georgia in 1988. Although there was no physical evidence, nevertheless, Davis was convicted in 1991. His last words, according to his executioners, were a continuation of what he had been saying throughout his prosecution, directed at the MacPhail family; “The incident that night was not my fault, I did not have a gun…I did not personally kill your son, father and brother. I am innocent.”

It would be an understatement to say I am disgusted in our ‘justice’ system. Not only am I completely opposed to the death penalty, but also I am appalled by the lack of evidence to supported Davis’ execution. I am astonished that we have the audacity to call our judicial courts just. A slogan Davis supporters used to organize against Troy Davis’ execution was ‘too much doubt’; referring to the great amount of doubt people had in his conviction. I had too little doubt in the United States judicial system. I now don’t know if it’s possible to have too much.

Troy Davis Executed After Stay Denied by Supreme Court

Troy Davis was convicted to the murder of an of duty officer back in 1991. Now the Georgia jail already killed him yesterday. Yesterday before they killed him Troy Davis did not want to eat anything and the whole day he was saying how he was not guilty and those where his last words. This news had gone around like wildfire a lot of people said that Troy Davis was innocent and they were protesting not to kill and let him free.
I think that they should have not killed him they should have opened the trial again because they were still iffy about that if Troy Davis was the right person who killed the police man. A lot of other people like former presidents were also asking to open the trial again they thought this was not fair. What do you think?

At 11:08 AM yesterday morning an innocent man was put to death in the eyes of our whole nation. At A Georgian jail a man named Troy Davis was robbed of his life. For the crime of being wrongly convicted I a 20 year murder trial. He is said to off killed an opposite race white police guard at a parking lot near a burger king, with a handgun. A murder weapon was never found but countless witnesses testified against him. Some of the witnesses who testified against Davis later stated that cops had forced them into lying. Because of this, millions of people were on his side in his final days. When the case was brought up in the supreme court, they too denied him the right to live.
I believe that this event was terrible, and indeed was a cruel and unusual punishment. I think the supreme court should of postponed the execution date until certainty of the murder Davis was accused of. I am concerned that more innocent people will die because of our broken system, and that when the next type of Troy Davis trial comes around, the judicial system will again fail us.

The Trouble in Libya Continues on Even After the Toppling of Gadhafi’s Regime

Libya has struggled for many years. Even though Gadhafi is gone, the country is still having problems. They continue to struggle with issues such as poor education, unpaved roads, no indoor plumbing and internal fighting. Basic needs are not being met and internal conflict only makes the situation worse. Last year Libya aquired $40 billion from the sale of oil and gas, yet barely any of it was used to better the conditions of the every day citizen. The United States depends upon Libya and other countries for oil and gas production and Libya’s unstable government has made an economis inpact here.

I believe the article I read is trying to get it’s reader thinking about what will be in the future for Libya. It is saying that Libya is going in the right direction but when will the changes really begin to make a difference for the people. The road systems, schools and many other things need attention. I think that in time, these problems will fade but it will be a long time before there is a full recovery. If the money gained from oil and gas is put towards the basic needs of the people, the new change in power will be more accepted. Some citizens of Libya still believe in the ideas of Gadhafi because it is all they know, but the article says that as things get better in the lives of these people they will begin to be happy for the change. I think this is the case and I hope that Libya will continue to improve in all ways possible.

Neutrinos Clocked Moving at Faster-than-Light Speed

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/44629271/ns/technology_and_science-science/?gt1=43001#.TnvtlNSwVeI

This article was about how scientists from the world’s largest physics lab think that they proved Einstein wrong. Einstein’s famous theory of relativity (E=mc^2), says that something moving faster than the speed of light isn’t possible. But scientists came out with results today suggesting that there are neutrinos that move faster than the speed of light. There is some doubt by other scientists, saying that there might be a flaw in the procedure or the equipment. A science lab in Chicago is going to re-test the same thing and see if they get similar results. The lab that first got the results is called CERN, and it’s in Europe. Now, Japan and the U.S. are going to double-check the results.
We have based so much in physics on the theory of relativity, that if their results prove to be accurate, it would completely change the world of physics. We would have to change the laws of nature! I can’t even imagine something moving faster than the speed of light, but I think that it’s really cool that we might have proved Einstein wrong! I wonder how they are able to test something moving that fast. Personally, I think that this discovery also brings our world together. I’m glad that science isn’t like the space race anymore. It’s good for scientists from Europe, America, and Japan to all work together and prove each other right or wrong without it being some huge competition. This potential discovery also shows how much we have advanced in the world of physics, we now have the technology available to be able to prove and disprove theories.

"Iran Releases Men Jailed As Spies"
    http://english.aljazeera.net/news/middleeast/2011/09/201192193018163522.html

Overview: Late on Wednesday night Shane Bauer and Josh Fattal were released from an Iranian prison. They were caught by Iranian officials hiking between the border of Iraq and Iran, and were thrown in a prison in Tehran on suspicions that they were American spies. They were in prison for about two years, and were just recently released in Oman to family and friends.

Opinion: The release of these two young men is relatively significant considering the extremely strained relationship between Iran and the U.S. However, these men were kept in prison for two years without anything being proved as to whether they were spies or not. This is incredibley unjust, and violates their human rights. Although these men were released alive and healthy, Iran should not be able to reserve the right to take two years of ones life away because they were hiking. Although the right thing ultimately happened, many have questioned President Ahmadinejad's timing, noting that he just visited the U.N. today, and was able to show off his one "humanitarian" action.

Troy Davis, to this day, has stood by his story of being an innocent man. Davis has been given the dealth penalty many times but yesterday September 21st, was the real thing. Davis started execution at 10:53pm and was pronounced dead at 11:08pm.
Personally, I don't think this man was given a fair trial . I feel as though this man was easily accused and prosecuted due to his race because no physical evidence was available at his first trial closer to the murder/crime scene but further down the road in the trial, all of a sudden evidence appeared. As an outsider looking in, Troy Davis did not deserve to die.

    http://www.cnn.com/2011/09/21/world/americas/mexico-bodies/index.html
This article talks about an escalating problem in Mexico. Over the last 10 years, the world’s distribution center of cocaine has moved north from Colombia to Mexico. Mexican street gangs have transformed themselves into highly organized cartels, working with mafias around world, and bringing extreme violence to Mexico and the U.S. This article describes a horror that’s happening practically on a daily basis. 35 bodies found near a shopping mall were dumped during rush hour traffic by two trucks in Veracruz State, Mexico. Many clues and questions remain as to how two unidentified drivers managed to succeed their operation under heavy traffic, but investigators claim they have a video which might hint them to how it must have started. Although this Tuesday, prison breaks in several areas occurred near area, including 32 inmate escapes, and possibly having to do with the incident. Supposedly, the thirty-five people (12 women, 23 men) once dealt with drugs and violence, which most likely caused their death.
It’s no surprise that violence and drug dealing are intertwined. What’s shocking with this story is not only the scale of the violence but how twisted and weird. Dropping dead bodies on any road during rush-hour is not something you would expect, but you would obviously notice. Clearly the murderers weren’t trying to hide their murders from the police. And it was meant to mock the police. The cavalier attitude of the Mexican cartels shows how little they value human life and the serious problem that Mexico faces and we face as well.

These paintings were returned to the Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski. Since 2007 the Us has returned more the 2500 items to over 22 countries. In the federal court last December a complaint was filed saying it was by Benne Von Arent who stole the paintings from the museum. by Benne Von Arent was a VSS lieutenant colonel, in 1944. The paintings were stolen when Germany invaded Poland in September of 1939.
Personally I think it is a good thing that the paintings were all returned to their rightful owners. I still want to know how the paintings were returned, and who found them? This article doesn't really relate to anything in my life, but I still found it interesting. I can't believe it took 7 decades for the pictures to finally be returned to the Polish President.

He was finally released claiming that he was not an American spy and that he’d never come back. When he came back (It doesn’t say his name) he was there for one reason and one reason only. He travelled to Egypt and crossed in Benghazi and then slowly into Libya. He talked with many rebel groups along the way. When he got to Misurta it was surrounded by Ghadaffis troops. When he talked to one rebel boy the boy said “I just want this war to be over so that I can play for the Miami Heat or the Dallas Mavs.

This current event really doesn’t have much in common with me. Libya is a warring country that is surrounded with rebels and a corrupt government which is how Egypt fell. I have one question though are the rebels fighting for freedom or power?

The delegations from the US and several other European countries walked out of the UN General Assembly when Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad attacked the US and condemned the use of the Halocaust as an “excuse to pay ransom... to Zionists.” Ahmadinejad called the circumstances surrounding the 9/11 attacks “mysterious”, and said it was an excuse for the US to go to war with Iraq and Afghanistan. Ahmadinejad said that the main reason for this was because the people of the US lusted for power and material things. He than said that his country would be “a new model for life to the world.”

It is my belief that Ahmadinejad and other leaders like him are simply attacking the US since they see them as a threat to their religion and political standing. They have no real reason to attack the US, and their claims have little supporting evidence. The 9/11 attacks were definitely not engineered by the US, and the call for war against terrorism was simply the reaction of an angry people. Afghanistan and Iraq could have avoided war if they had decided to stop supporting the terrorists. As for Ahmadinejad’s claim that Iran is a model nation, it would be more believable coming from someone who probably killed at least 70 protestors and innocent bystanders when he ordered a violent crackdown on protesting following his 2009 reelection.

On Friday, September 16 a A-P-51 mustang airplane crashed into the stands at the Reno air show. At least 9 people were killed including the pilot, and more than 50 were injured. 56 were taken to a local hospital where 15 are held in critical condition and 13 are in serious condition. Witnesses say that before the crash it looked like no one was driving the plane, doing upside down rolls until it crashed into the stands. Investigations have begun to find out what happened during the accident.
In my opinion, this could have been avoided and the 9 peoples lives could have been saved. If people had just been more careful. If people had just payed more attention to whether there was something wrong with pilot, health conditions or something wrong with the plane itself. If just a little more care had been put into things i'm sure this wouldn't have happened. There have been plenty of other airshows and i have been to a few also. All of those have gone fine, i think that whoever was running this was a bit reckless compared to the thousands of other air shows. A question i still have is what are people doing to find out what happened that caused the plane to crash and what are they doing to fix it?

This current event is about Troy Davis and how he was charged of killing a police officer in Savannah Georgia. This time period happened on August 19, 1989. It was an African American man convicted of killing a police at a Burger King. During Davis’ 1991 trial, several witnesses testified they had seen Davis shoot MacPhail, and two others testified that Davis had confessed to them. Even though they couldn’t find the weapon Davis was charged anyway. Bullet evidence was found at a nearby scene to those at another shooting in which Davis was also charged. This article is significant because it shows you how people are treated in different ways. In today’s life race is a big problem. Even though he was charged with the killing the officer, he should have just got life in prison instead of being executed.

To me Troy Davis shouldn’t have been killed. I think you should give people second chances in life. And if they mess it up the second time then you should punish them. Troy Davis did kill the officer but I think there was something else going on in order to kill that officer. People don’t just come out of nowhere and kill somebody. You will never know who’s with you and who’s against you so you should treat all people with respect.

This is very significant to black people because we as people think that he was innocent. Also, we compare him to Casey Anthony and he didn't even have evidence of the killing. They tried to wait until the Supreme Court told them what to do. But they didn't wait and they just killed him.

I feel that it was wrong for them to kill him for no reason. Also, people of my kind think that it was foul to. Some people may think it was right to kill him but it wasn't. They had no evidence of any kind and the 7 of the witnesses lied. But when Casey Anthony committed a crime she was set free. I think the government is all wrong and not fair.

I chose to write about obesity in America, because I think that it is a major problem in our society. It also connects to very many medical problems, including gout, type 2 diabetes, heart disease and many other problems. If you are obese that means that you are 20% over weight for your height, and most people are that. Losing weight can be so easy if you eat right, and get daily exercise. This will not only benefit your weight problems, but it can benefit other body function/systems such as the respitory system. If your are not that over weight then it will be easier to breath and get oxygen to the heart. So get a good diet, get a friend, and go exercise!

NATO authorized a 90 day extension of their mission in Libya on Thursday. Since the takeover of Tripoli a few weeks ago, NATO forces have been present in the country, to ensure Gadhafi forces didn’t make any trouble. The civil war in Libya is still going on, with the action moving across the country. NATO is in Libya as a security force, to protect the people and the rebel-overtaken cities from attack. The African Union has also decided to allow the new Libya into the union.
I think it’s a good idea to stay in Libya, because the country is still unstable. Gadhafi forces are still in the country, and NATO ensures that they won’t rise up and attempt to retake control. They can also help in the capturing of Gadhafi, who is still a threat as a leader of his loyalists. If NATO were to leave, the foreign security presence would drop dramatically, and make it easier for pro-Gadhafi forces to strike back.

This brought much contreversy because there was not enough evidence to support that claims against him. Some people even said that they were forced to say he was guilty by the police because of the loss of their former police officer.

I think this is absolutely wrong. There wasn't enough evidence to support their claims, and he shouldn't have died. Also, he kept saying he was innocent to the very end, which is peculiar. Usually when a person knows they are going to die, they will admit to their sins, unlike this man who supported his thought the whole way.

After Muammar el-Qedaffi was finally removed from power, Libya has been able to start regaining control of the government and nation. Libyan Ambassador Gene A. The article I read is about how salt affects our health, but is hard to avoid. Eating excessive amounts of salt can lead to many health problems. However, it is also a useful ingredient that prevents foods from spoiling. Salt is also hard to avoid, or cut back on because it is in most foods we eat. One way to cut back would be to not eat at restaurants, and not to eat fast food as frequently, as those types of food tend to have a lot of salt.

I think that it is important to eat a healthy diet. However, I realize that sometimes eating right can be challenging and more expensive. I think it is important that we try to cut back on the amount of salt in foods, and continue looking for healthier alternatives. I think that if people put their minds to eating healthier foods and maintaining a healthy lifestyle it is possible.

The deer were 1 ½ and 3 ½ years old, a male and a female. The disease is transmitted by a biting fly and is detected by extensive hemorrhages. The deer show sickness after a week of being infected. Scientist believe that EHD is caused by climate changes and the spread of biting flies from it.
This article made me feel kind of sad, because the disease sounds very uncomfortable and there is no treatment for it, no way to control it. If it ever becomes an epidemic, then the whole food chain would suffer. Many animals rely on deer and the wildlife too. We depend on the wildlife, so therefore this event affects us too.

"Obama outlines No Child Left Behind relief for Michigan, other states" Lori Higgins
    Detroit free press 9/23/11
    http://www.freep.com/article/20110923/NEWS06/110923005/Obama-outlines-No-Child-Left-Behind-relief-Michigan-other-states?odyssey=tab|topnews|text|FRONTPAGE

This article outlined how schools are struggling to meet the standards of the no child left behind law and how Obama is trying to help them. He is doing this by granting schools waivers for the requirement to have 100% passing on statewide exams. They will only get these waivers if they enforce stricter rules on the kids and get 100% passing in a few years. Many states want to get these waivers because the probably wont make the 2014 deadline. The new laws also allow states to decide how to use federal funding.
I think that it's good that these waivers were put in place cause lets face it 100% passing is pretty much impossible. There are just some kids who can't do it. Some people just don't have the time or brain power to do that. I almost think this isn't enough. Well I just hope it works out in the end

Title: Nev. Air Show Death Toll Reaches 10
    Source: http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,2093769,00.html
    Date: September 19

My article is about a plane crash that happened in the Nevada Air Show. This event happened 9/19 in Reno, Nevada. The death toll for this accident was 10 people, including the pilot. The pilot was in his 70’s when he died. But at least he died doing what he loved. Witnesses say that this event happened so quickly, that everybody was in shock when they saw the small aircraft on the ground. The other nine people that died were bystanders just waiting to watch the small aircraft land, but they were just standing to close. Soon after the crash the firefighters showed up and so did ambulances ready to take all of the injured to the hospital.

I think next time they have air shows like this, there should be a limited amount of places that people can stand so, if there were to be another plane crash none of them would get hurt. I think next time there is another air show they should have firefighters and ambulances at the ready just incase another event like this happens again.

Police find dead body of Mexico newspaper editor
    date: September 22

My article is about an editor of a new mexico News paper, "Maria Elizabeth" who was found dead on the America Mexico border. Her body was found Saturday morning. But she was not the only victim. People have found threats mailed to there family saying they are going to find them.

My opinion is that they need to do some investigating. On the article it says they have not even really looked it to these situations that much. And that the family is protesting the people that are supposed to take care of these situations because they are doing nothing. And i agree with them.

In Northern China, there is a small village called Blue Dragon. But according to the Chinese government, this village does not exist. This all started when ten years ago, the Chinese government built a dam around a village and a reservoir formed, completely flooding a village. All of the people of this village claim that they never received any compensation money, while the government says they did give money to them. Not one house was left standing, so the farmers were supposed to move to close by farming districts, but they did not. They built another village by the reservoir to defy the government. Because of this, the government took them off the map, and refused to supply them with ID cards or birth certificates. Because of this lack of legal documents, the people of this village are not able to travel and get work in other towns or cities, and their children will not be able to either once they grow up. Any children that were born in the last ten years to not even have any official evidence of existence.
` I believe that this is wrong. It is the governments fault for flooding this are in the first place. They could have probably flooded an area a mile away just as easily, and because they decided not to many people are out of work and do not exist.

DRC-RWANDA: Militia members return home to another country by IRINNEWS 15 September 2011
    http://www.irinnews.org/report.aspx?reportid=93736
In Rawanda militants are returning home after leaving to go live and fight in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo. They are mainly Hutus who fled after the Tutsis militant group the Rwandan Patriotic Front took the capital and the government. There has been fighting going on for years between the two factions and now the Rawandan government is allowing the militants to return to Rawanda. Those who return have to undergo a 3 month re-assimilation class. This is significant because this is showing that peace between the two groups can be achieved and fighting that has been going on for years can end.

This is important because it is showing how some of these culture conflicts can end in peace. We often forget that this fighting has been and is still going on. This is how we want theses long clashes to end , with peace and not the complete destruction of a cultural group.

A tropical storm has recently taken a turn for the worst which could endanger many civilians in South America and the surrounding islands. As of Monday Tropical Storm Rina was officially classified as a category 1 hurricane. After readings from an aircraft reported sustained winds over 75 miles an hour a warning was created for those in the Cayman Islands, Mexico, and Honduras. This is very dangerous considering the rainy seasons for Honduras and surrounding areas was supposed to have just finished. This means that they are at a higher risk for damage because the ground is already saturated. Many deaths have been reported this year due to the previous rain, so for some in these areas, they are worried this may be a death sentence.

I believe there is a serious issue at hand, which could be catastrophic for some residents and countries. I am very impressed that we found out about this before it was too late for precautions. I understand how helpful this can be for safety sake, because so many are saved thanks to early warnings for tornado’s and hurricane’s in North Carolina alone. I personally was home alone one day when a tornado warning came in. the early warning system gave me enough time to corral all my pets and grab our crank radio before making it our safe room. However I am worried as to what danger this could cause for the Hondurans and others effected who are just coming out of their rainy seasons.
